well we quickly replaced campbell, boyle is a lot like him, more finess and an offensive defender who struggles at times with defense. He will help out the power play for sure though and we got a great goalie to back up and mistakes boyle is bound to make. However, we gave up carle and ty wishart, our best prospect. Now what got the Sharks to where they are now is joe thorton and a great job of developing our own talent. This year we got rid of bernier earlier, then we gave up on carle. Wishart I think will prove to be the biggest loss and made me question this trade right when I saw his name. Wilson is trying everything to win but this new formula might back-fire. Was it worth it???

I don't think it was worth it. Dan Boyle had a very good season for the Lightning, even though he had an awful +/- thanks to his team and missed most of the season. They gave up Matt Carle, a good young defenseman who struggled a bit last season, Ty Wishart (their best prospect), a first round pick in 2009, and a fourth round pick in 2010.

The Sharks are saying that they want to win now. They are giving up a lot of their future in order to try to win now. Could they possibly be doing this just to try to get Jeremy Roenick a Stanley Cup victory?

They also made some other moves that is hurting their future. At the 2007 trade deadline, they traded Josh Gorges and a first-round pick to the Canadiens for Craig Rivet, who was traded to the Sabres along with a seventh round pick for 2 second round picks. They also traded for Bill Guerin at the expense of Ville Nieminen, Jay Barriball, and a first round pick. This past season, they traded a first round pick and Steve Bernier for Brian Campbell, who only played 33 regular season games with the Sharks.

I don't like the direction that this team is going in. They are trading too many high draft picks for players that usually do not end up staying that long.

You're forgetting though that the Sharks draft better than any team in the league maybe save for the Red Wings. They scout well, they evaluate well and they make great use out of all their picks. While I'm not thrilled about giving up Ty Wishart either, I can almost guarantee that there are a few more solid defenseman coming through the pipe in the organization otherwise Wilson wouldn't have made this trade. He knows his organization better than anyone and also value the minor system very much. While I agree that consistently giving up high draft picks is cause for concern, there is also something to be said for keeping all your draft picks and having a great minor league system and at the same time losing in the second round of the playoffs three years in a row. Something obviously had to be tweaked a little bit and Wilson realized that.
