If it turns out that this didn't happen, I am done with ESPN forever, they constantly make up stories now. They are becoming a tabloid sports media outlet. I never thought I'd see the day where I no longer wish to watch sportscenter 3 or 4 times a day.

I have learned to NEVER trust any Raider related info on ESPN until verified by a Raider source. May I suggest Jerry McDonald of Oak Tribune or Jason Jones of the Sac Bee.
I do know there is a struggle between Kif/Al regarding roster composition, but that is to be expected. Al is a hands on owner, Kif knew when he signed on (you can convince me he didn't get Gruden's input prior to accepting the position) there would be challenges.
ESPN consistently submitS unsubstantiated rumors and "unidentified source" stories.
Personally, I rarely watch any of their "football opinion shows", as I find their hosts and content overall to be irritating.
I use a couple other sources within org also (season ticket holder and long time fan).
Just a heads up, after the Gruden/LaMonte/Mortensen fiasco...anyone within the organazation that spoke to him would be beheaded (j/k). Seriously, he is "persona non gratis" in the facility.
I would also avoid Pete Prisco at this site also, he has a non Raider agenda also.
So as Public Enemy said years ago....."don't believe the hype".

CBS isn't reporting that this didn't happen; they are reporting that the Raiders are denying it. I have no idea exactly what happened. But if you really think that ESPN just "made this up," you are delusional.

This may or may not have happened. TWO WEEKS AGO!!!!
This according to ESPN's "source"
The Raiders don't usually immediately respond to something saying it's not true. They just did. That tells me that it's not.
Did something happen between Kiifin and Big Al more than likely. However it appears that they have worked it out considering all parties concerned (Kiffin, Al & Ryan) have seeminly put it behind them and decided instead to focus on what the rest of us should: Football.
Until Kiffin or Ryan resigns or is fired I will not believe any of this drivel.
SPECULATION!!!!! Nothing more by ESPN. They're the geniuses who said Ryan was good as gone remember?
Morons.

While saying BSPN is lying would be stupid, I am going to guess that they are imbelishing the parts that they dont know. I am hoping that it is more along the lines of Al just not letting Kif fire Ryan. They say every thing is ok but really Kiff and Ryan probably are not getting along. Does that mean Al wants kiff to quit no does that mean Kiff and Ryan cant work together no.
Hopefully its is just irresponsible reporting.
Probably its more like kiff will turn us around next year get us to say 8 and 8 then just quit and work else where. completly screwing us for another ten years.

Hopefully it is just rumors. I hope Kif, Ryan, and Al are all working to get on the same page. I liked what I saw from Kif this year, and I like Ryan. Together they can turn this team back into a contender. However whenever stories are this widespread they are usually true. Turmoil in Oaktown....I dont like it.

ESPN is not making this up and it's probably not embellishing. other media outlets are reporting the same thing with independent investigations. read the sf chronicle article, which is much more detailed than anything on espn so far:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/01/25/SPJPUM98P.DTL
you all are right, ryan didn't get fired. that's because this whole thing appears to be true. As part of Davis's power play, he apparently refused to let kiffin fire ryan.

Mortensen was the same jackass that had Gruden going to Notre Dame. Also, according to Mort, Eli Manning was out for the year after week one. I wonder how that "story" turned out. And while ESPN is filling their airwaves and websites with rumors, they have nicely tucked away the Dana Jacobsen "story" since it was one of their own.
John Sterling of the Yankees had the best line about ESPN, "they make up stories and then debate them for days."
The World Wide Leader in sports tabloid journalism has struck again. Thank you, CBS, for just reporting the facts.

2 things. 1) anyone remeber Art Shell last year and 2) according the contract Kiffin signed last season, he was supposed to have final say on who he hired and fired, and Al agreed to it

Even if ESPN is wrong, I really don't think I would have the will power to stop watching sportscenter. Its like heroin for sports junkies!!

You people should try reading a book or doing something a tad more productive with your time than obsessing over nonsense like this. Anyone who watches sportscenter on a daily basis, let alone 3-4 times a day, has problems. Might want to watch the movie Idiocracy so you can see where you're headed.

You know, between the Romo & Jessica Simpson saga. T.O. crying, Brady's maybe/maybe not hurt ankle & any miscellaneous reports of NBA thugs waving 9's outside of t!tty bars. They rarely work in any actual factual sports news. Just like all the other news networks, the mantra is "Report it first. Worry about the validity later."

May I suggest "Sportscenter Methadone"....lol....wean yourself off of that show.
Its like "sports pablum".....no substance, only highlights, editorial comments, futile comedic attemps and speculation. Pure "regurgitation" for simple minds (no offense intended).
You can find in 5 minutes online what they take an hour of your life to tell.

ESPN today is like a someone impersonating Frank Sinatra Jr. Bob Ley, Dan Patick, Chris Berman, Charlie Steiner. The original guys were great, now the next generation of SC guys are painful to watch. It's really a shame, to me it was the best show on TV, non stop sports, funny, original commentators. Now it's run of the mill, in fact SC is so desperate they have start their show during PTI to hope people stay on to watch.
These days about the only thing good about Sports Center is the commercials.
