Honestly, color me crazy, but I believe Clemens. McNamee is a notorious pathological liar, you can say he was protecting players all you want, but he was protecting his own behind. Even now, his story continues to change about how many times he injected Clemens. Everytime he talks, he has "new evidence" that won't hold up in court. He also claims Clemens was at Jose Canseco's party, which Canseco, Canseco's wife, and unbiased witnesses deny. Even professional announcers have said Clemens wasn't there.
If McNamee lied about that, which I think is pretty clear he has, who says he isn't lying about everything else in regards to Clemens? He can tell the truth about Knob and Pettite all he wants, Mitchell needed a big name to throw in his report and under the bus, and McNamee did it to Clemens.
Remember, Clemens asked for this meeting, he was not subpoenaed, and was even given a chance to back out so he would not perjure himself. He refused and insisted on testifying because he wanted America to hear the truth.
Not to mention, the Pettite thing, Clemens explanation is perfectly logical. Pettite easily could have misunderstood or misrecalled a conversation that happened 8 years ago. Think about it, how many times do you and your spouse or friend have a conversation and think one of you said something you didn't? Happens to me all the time, and I would swear under oath I was right, but I could be wrong.
Mark my words, within the next week, Pettite will come out and say that it is at least a possibility that he misunderstood, and while he stands by what he says, he does believe that he could have misunderstood.
You are innocent until proven guilty in this country and as far as I am concerned, Clemens has not been proven guilty. There are two stories here, one from a HOF pitcher who before this incident had a great reputation, and one from a pathological notorious liar. You can believe the liar if you want, I'm believing the guy who has never given me a reason to doubt him.
BTW, I am a Phillies fan, and I hate the Yankees, Blue Jays, and I am not a Clemens fan as a pitcher. I respect his ability, but I've never been a huge Clemens fan so this opinion is purely unbiased and looking at the facts and the character of the people in question.
