Donovan McNabb has gotten it done without having a big name wide reciever in the past and i beleive he can do it in the future. Having a big name WR dosent garuntee andything. DId the Patriots win the SuperBowl with Randy Moss? Did the Cowboys or the Eagles win the Superbowl with T.O.? I dont think so. People put to much stock in a wide reciever. What they need is solid play from their tight end position, and some better play form both the offensive line and the secondary. They also need a kick returner for crying out loud. So stop getting caught up in the hype because the Eagles wont be getting a big name wide reciever so get over it.
P.S. Please dont get Javon Walker he probably isnt 100 percent after 2 knee surgeries in less then 2 years. and i dont think he will ever be 100 percent again.
Obviously defense does win championships and we need to get some defensemen, just like the Giants did. Plus I hate our system b/c we redshirt all rookies and dont give them a shot. I hate to say this but the Giants were very smart b/c they played their young guys. Now their young guys know what it takes to carry a team all the way.
I dont think our first thing to go for is a WR, but it sure damn helps. Donovan needs some help and can't have him and Westbrook do all the work. Curtis is a good WR, but needs to be a #2 or Slot receiver. I hate that excuse, well we won those two playoff games w/out TO. Oh yea how did we get homefield advantage again???? Oh b/c TO the whole regular season caught tons of TD's and made our WR's better by making them open. Yea Moss played bad, but how did the Patriots get homefield and go 16-0 in the regular season??? B/c of top notch WR's making the team better and being on the field longer. Hence your defense gets tons of rest and then they do their job once they get out there.
We need defenders obviously to make turnovers, but the Eagles Offense was awful last year. It was a struggle to watch them be pathetic. I couldnt tell whose offense was worse the Bears or Eagles. Im feel so bad for Westbrook b/c he has to put everything on his shoulder each year (he only has maybe 3-4 more years left in him and time is ticking on this great RB). If you just bring in a few more weapons for McNabb it makes the game easier for the offense and the defense can get rest on the sidelines. We need a better offensive line, a TE (LJ Smith sucks and is a crying baby), and 1 or 2 WR's that are decent. Reggie Brown and Greg Lewis shouldnt even be on the team. I wish the front office would listen to most eagles fans and not to people like you. We had everything together in 2005 and then we just gave up on getting more pieces, and then got rid of TO. So now we need more things on the defense and offense thanks to management being too arrogant.
The aging defense clearly came from the tackles, who are both 24. I mean, obviously they are much past their prime. And then theres the end spot where we have trent cole who's even older. i mean the guy is 25, he could up and retire at any moment. but seriously, the comment is from someone who knows nothing about this team. Dawkins is past his prime, and even though we all know that, we also know he is the heart of the defense. Aside from him, the age of the defense is not a problem, especially if we bring in another young DE to complement trent
B/c hes been in the Eagles system before and Stallworth is going to take less money then from before. Come on now why do you think the Eagles mentioned his name and said that they will look into talking to him? Those are the two reasons. I love the Eagles and all but our management is so cheap and always under the cap. So they'll definitely take a guy who is not asking for alot and knows their system.
I gotta agree with you here. I'm from Philly but I'm a Miami Dolphins fan...don't ask. Some of my Eagles friends are still calling for AJ Feeley. What?!? AJ is a backup QB for a reason. He's not that good. Of course, my feelings are a little personal since Miami gave the Eagles a 2nd round pick for this dud. He came to MIA and didn't do jack! McNabb is their best option at QB for now. The fans should rally around him and stop bitching all the time. All he has to do is win and the fickle Philly fans will love him forever. I hope they get a serious threat at WR via the draft or free agency. This will make the other WRs better.
I think the Eagles need Larry Fitzgerald and his huge contract. And better yet, throw in your first round (#19) pick to the Cardinals, too. Oh yeah, and don't try to rework his current contract, because it's perfect just as it is.
That will put the Eagles in the Super Bowl...yeah, right!!!
Leave that thinking to the Redskins, Cowboys, 49ers, and Raiders, their fans are used to it.
TheBirds21, I agree with your statement but the post was in reference to McNabb and Philly fans always knocking him. My point has been before you run McNabb out of Philly, give him a fair shot at what a QB needs... like a top rate double coverage type WR. He has a decent front line and a great all around RB... but if your receivers aren't creating space, how long can he or any QB sit in the pocket. You are right, TO and Moss didn't win a SB this year... but they sure as heck improved their teams. Tony Romo is NO McNabb... and look at the numbers Brady put up with Moss... you can't deny the fact that a top flight WR would totally give Philly better odds to get to a SB.
I'm a Philly fan and I love McNabb... I think he gets little respect from Philly fans and Philly media. Give him a chance like when he had TO before it's too late and this team has to rebuild without him.
I understand that McNabb gets a bad rap form the fans and the media, he always has and he always will. He is never going to credit for what he has done for this citys football team. he helped turn a losing franchise into a competive winning one. But all im saying is that they have other needs than a big name recivever. Is that reciever going to create takeaways on defense, or run a punt or kick return back for a touchdown. I dont think so, The people in this city want a big name reciever so they can say that the Eagles arent cheap. BUt if they get the WR and they dont win the Superbowl then it will somehow be McNabbs fault anyway. i can already here the excuses. He unerthrew him too much or he didnt hit him when he was open enough. Or he is to inaccurate. If they wanna get a WR go ahead just fill the more importatn needs first that is all that i am saying.
Well at least you aren't going with the pipe dream of Moss in Phily. I do, however, think that Bernard Berrain from Da Bears would be a great fit for Phily. McNabb will have a legit deep treat with Berrain, and then Reggie Brown could fit in his true role as a #2 wide out.
