The most important thing for the Eagles right now is McNabb. Yes they do need a quality #1 WR, but McNabb MUST stay healthy for this team to make the playoffs with or without a star wideout. Injury prone QBs are not good for the long run, and McNabb IS injury prone. When he is healthy he is one of the best, but how often does he stay healthy for a whole season?

Dude, I am not even a Philly fan(I am a Dolpins fan), I live in the philly area and am stuck watching bad Eagles games.  Mismanaged games, poor performances by that team and coach.  Yeah he may have been the best QB in their history but that isnt saying much.

McNabb throws into the dirt when the WR is OPEN.  He misses high as much as he misses wide, and when he is pressured or feels pressure he throws it to the WR feet.  It it wasnt for passes to Westbrook he would have a completion ratio of under 40%  Seriously take a step back and take a critical eye at your QB.

Now, can some of that blame be passed onto the WR for running an incorrect route?  Sure I guess it can.  But when he had T.O. all they did was play pitch and catch deep and over the middle.  Oh did I forget the zero yard hitch?  I remember Freddie Mitchell alligator arming a ball thrown his away shying away from the hit.  That is on the WR.  I remember McNabb throwing, on many occassions, into the dirt.  THAT, is on McNabb there is no reason for missing an open WR.

Philly had a great run they hosted the Divisional Championship 4 years in a row.  I remember McNabb closing out the VET with an INT to Ronde who promptly took it back 90 some odd yards for a TD to put the nail in the coffin on a championship game.  McNabb has cost the Eagles as many games as any of their backups since he was there.

Andy Reid needs to learn that running the ball on 3rd and 1 is a good percentage play.  I mean they draft Shawn Andrews (a great run blocker) and dont even run behind him on 3rd and 1?  What is he thinking?  Andy Reid has a huge EGO problem, that owner needs to step up and take away GM responsibilities from Reid so he can concentrate on coaching alone.  Then maybe he will be the coach that the Eagles wanted him to be.

By the way who is Michael Westbrook??? The WR for the Redskins back in the 80's right. You mean Brian Westbrook and the guys name is Kevin Kolb not Kelvin.

too funny loveutley

I'm glad real eagles fans know the names of our star player...you dont know our running back's name...don't tell me about what the team needs and what they dont...

I honestly think McNabb is not the right QB to run the west coast system.  Maybe that is his problem.  He seemed to do well throwing deep to T.O. and when he does go deep (crosses and outs) he is usually on target.  Maybe he just has a problem hitting the underneath stuff.

coldone you really gotta get your head out of your ass.  Philly fans are always seen as some of the SMARTEST fans in sports. And in response to asking whether or not I'd rather have him miss the receiver high or low.  The answer is I'd rther see him HIT THE RECEIVER.  Now since we all know that is impossible for mcnabb then it is realized that we need a receiver who can catch that dirt ball.  D-Line?... Trent Cole? Mike "Pot-Head" Patterson? Broderick Bunckley? The D-line is fine.  I will admit the O-line is getting old but we have a year or two left with our tackles so thats not a necessity.  What is a necessity is a RECEIVER.  Again, Fitzgerald

Ridiculous statement!

You certainly do need top notch receivers. These teams don't get to the playoffs without them. It's a team effort. You're forgetting the games they won when Moss & T.O. were in there. Think about it.

They are aging at a lot of key positions which is why they have some "holes" to fill but they'll be in contention for at least the next two years based soley on veterans like McNabb, Runyan, Thomas, and Dawkins and w/ these guy's healthy for an entire year would make the playoffs in the NFC...but a Star wideout would make it an almost certainty.  They lost 5 games by 4 or fewer points and if the offense could've sustained a few more drives and kept the D off the field plus maybe kicked just one more field goal (Or if Ackers didn't already miss one or two) they would've been 10-6 not 8-8.  Reid knows McNabb has more football in him and gives the Birds the best chance to win short term but if the short term is what they're looking at spend a little money and a WR to balance things out...

the Giants just benifited from what the Eagles showed everyone...pressure brady and let them try to beat you with the run that's one game but to win consistently you need to have a balanced attack and keep Defenses guessing.
