I was a little surprised at the Olivea release. If he did indeed request to be released, it was probably because he saw the writing on the wall - that he would be a backup guard or tackle. It seems that the coaches had issues with his work ethic and commitment. If that's true, then this was a classic case of addition by subtraction.

Didn't Olivea have about 4 years left on his contract? What kind of cap impact is the release going to have?

I'm not sure but after this year his salary will be off the books. He was going to be a backup and he was making starters money(Olivea).

Trust me,everyone who calls themself a true Charger fan hates to see Loneal leave, but the fact is that Pinnock proved he can play. He can catch without losing yards, and he is a great blocker. Look back at the tapes against Tenny and the Colts and you will see him moving the tackle like he was opening the fridge door to grab another beer.. Got to keep moving, we need ringz in this town! Get'em Boltzzzzzzzz

Whoops. Can't say that on here, I guess. Well, here it is without the expletives:
Now who am I going to drool over? Shane Olivea was my Chargers bf. He's my desktop on my computer at home. OMG, it's the end of my world!!!!!!
They signed him last year for $20 million for 6 years to answer everyone's questions. Why McCree though? Because of Cromartie? Anyone got any clues? I don't usually follow off-season trades, etc.

According to what I've read, McCree is being released to make room for Eric Weddle. I knew Weddle played well last year, but I didn't realize he played well enough to be handed the starting FS job.
The DBs really came together last season. Would have been nice to keep the entire group together, but understand that McCree wants to start. Now if the Chargers can get the DL healthy this defense will be a major force.
Sorry about Olivea, but the OL just played better with Jeromy Clary in the lineup.
