Remember Pete, it was the cleveland Browns fan backing savage, not Lerner's own decision making, that kept Savage in Cleveland during the Savage-Collins power struggle.

I like what Savage is doing in Cleveland and hopefully it works out. Either everything will pan out and the Browns become a powerhouse or the Dawg Pound will flop under all that weight of the Dollar Signs on the players shoulders. It is good to see that a team is making moves to contend and compete in the AFC rather than sit back like and watch everyone around you get stronger. My hats off to the Browns front office for that. I am hoping they contend for years to come...

I like the signings so far but I think Cleveland is overpaying. If they got the cap money and keep putting butts in the seats to write their huge-money contracts to guys like Donte Stallworth and Corey Williams...more power to them. I am convinced the Browns want to win right now, I am just not convinced that Stallworth is worthy of a 7-year deal.  Stallworth has had "OK" seasons as far as WR are concerned. He really didn't do that much in Philly and in NE he played third fiddle behind Moss and Wes Welker. Williams sure cashed in for having a "better-than-average" season for a DT last year. Don't get me wrong, he is a good football player but I think the "franchise tag" from the Packers boosted his value more than his ability.

Other than overpaying for average talent, the only other argument I have regarding Savage is wasting Brady Quinn on the bench. If you are going to give up your left nut for a QB of the future, you can't be signing the Derek Anderson's of the world to 3-year extensions (even if he leads your team to an "almost" playoff birth.) I really hope that the Browns decide what is going on or they could wind up with two ticked off QBs.

I am just not convinced that Stallworth is worthy of a 7-year deal.  Does anyone really honestly belive Stallworth will get the entire 7 year deal? I mean come on.

Agree 327, but who has not overpaid for any FA's this year? I think all the teams have for "better than average, far from superstars" players. There is a lot of depth in this draft but not players that are goin to impact a team right away (not with the 2nd & 3rd picks the Browns had)

signing football players is always a gamble, but the good thing about the nfl contracts is there not set in stone your good one year and out the next. i have to say i like the path the Browns are taking build a core through the draft BE, JT, KW & BQ and build roll players and FA's around them it's a good plan if it don't work O'well we can always fire everybody and start over. if that happens i'm still gonna watch .

it is always a gamble signing players to long term contracts but then again so is the draft as we Browns fans know ,does anybody think that stallworth will see his whole 7 year deal ?was there anybody that we could have drafted to fill the other receiver need after trading our first 3 picks ,Wilson is a bust all in all good moves ,yea we overpaid but so has every other team this off season in Phil i do trust

Everyone is talk'n bout how the Browns are "overspending"!! This is football, not baseball, or basketball where the contracts are guaranteed...All the browns are responsible for is the signing bonus. Football contracts are low in the first couple years and are back loaded, so after a couple years they can b cut.. take stallworth for example...

10mil signing bonus we keep him 3 or 4 years, thats 3.3 mil to 2.5 mil a yr, plus his salary which will be low those first 3/4 years in a 7 yr deal..so thats not alot of money (in football, damn sure is alot to me!!) then to boot the signing bonuses dont count against the salary cap.

Another way to look at it is they are talking bout the bargining agreement with the players association...someing bout not having a salary cap in a few years, if thats the case the browns just protected themselves with these long contracts!!! No salary cap, then we  keep them the lenght of the contract, if not dump em if they dont perform the way they are expected.. with no salary cap all these ppl that are saying the browns overspent will be saying wow the browns payroll is low and they still winning....hahahahahahaha
