Curse you, Howard Schultz for selling the Sonics to an owner who was hellbent on moving the team out-of-town.  I'm not a Sonics fan, but this is not right.  That franchise has been in that city for over 40 years and has supplied the city with its only major championship.  I pray that divine intervention will intercede and keep the Sonics in Seattle (for a couple of years more at least).  As for you Schultz, I hope you spit out your next cup of Starbucks coffee!!

If the inevitable does indeed happen, I would suggest that Clay Bennett what the old Cleveland Browns did in the NFL.  When they moved, they became the Baltimore Ravens and left all of the Browns history in Cleveland - with a little help from a U.S. judge.  Oklahoma City Sonics sound just as bad - if not worse - than the Utah Jazz (what do Mormons know about jazz??).  Change the name and become an entire new team, leaving the history of the Sonics to a possible new owner to carry.  You have your instructions Bennett, don't follow them and I hope your next cup of Starbucks coffee burns your tongue!!

this is a bad move. i'm not a big sonics fan, cause well, let's face it, they've been making the lottery, year after year after year. but, they deserve to stay in seattle, where they have won a championship. the owner shouldn't be able just to sell the team, the team, it's players, organization, and seattle fan's should have a say in all this. besides, the oklahoma city sonics. sounds horrific! i mean geez, it sounds so bad! i hope they don't move.

haha im pretty excited about this possible move. Im not an okie nor am i a sonics fan, but unfortunately my job requires me to live here and there isnt any kind of sports here worth watching. Sooners make me gag and that is all they have to cheer for in this state, so with this move ill have at least a chance to see some good teams(Lakers) come to town and beat up on the poor sonics who will probably NEVER be a good team ever again. haha

Hey Seatle, it aint over till its over.  Look at the Pittsburg Penguins, They were told they were moving, had a new arena in a new city all lined up and BAM, Mario bought the team out of no where, then it happened again, and in the 11th hour they got a new arena in Pittsburg.

And besides, theres a consolation prize.  Paul Allen owns the TrailBlazers right?  He spent 170 Million of his OWN money for Quest field, don't you think he might be tempted to build a new arena in Seatle and move his team there?  Its a bigger market isn't it?

And another thing, why in gods name would they move to OKC?  I know all about the owner being from there, being a big "basket ball market",   no other pro teams near by (NOT TRUE, cowboys, stars, and Mavs are not that far away)  but you are moving from a city of 3 million to a city of 1 million, while the economy is in recession.  Am I the only one who sees a problem with this?  Isn't David Stern supposed to look out for this kind of thing?

forgot to finish my thought.

Back to Pittsburg.  Since they are getting a big new shinny arena with tons of revenue generating luxuray boxes, why are they not considering a move there instead of OKC? Its got a population of 2.2 million.  Might make a nice rivalry with the sixers, no?

What are you guys talking about?  the only reason they want to move the team out of Seatlle is because the city is not doing anything about the old run down stadium they are playing in.  The Sonics owner is losing millions of dollars a year trying to keep up with that old stadium.  The city has made no efforts to build a new stadium or even reconstuct the current one.  If Seattle took half of the effort they use on complaining about losing the Sonics and put in doing something for the SOnics then this whole problem would go away.  Cheap people in Seattle are the reason you are losing the team, not the owner.

THATS EXACTLY what they want you to think. Save the Sonics!

Not a Sonics fan, but this whole thing is bull. I'm holding out hope that Seattle gets to keep the team, it just wouldn't be the same. But even if they did move, why OKC? As I've said before, I could think of 10 more appealing cities than Okie City.

"The 15-year agreement has an exit clause if attendance falls after the first two years"

In two years Bennet will extort OKC for "matching funds" to keep it a "major league city".  OKC will wake up and realize they have the worst (and one of the poorest owners) in the NBA. He will end up moving the OKC Cowboys somewhere like Fresno where he can be the big man in town. (no offense Fresno).

Hopefully Seattle will rid itself of this owner, keep the Sonics name, and build a 25,000 seat venue that can host the NHL, NBA and the Final Four. It will be the Quest Field of Indoor Arena.

OKC be careful what you wish for!

You all obviously do not pay attention. The reason that they are going to move to OKC is the owners are from there and while the Hornets were in town the sold out all 70 games. So people will show up to the games even if the team is bad like the hornets.
