Davidson is basically playing at home (~150 miles away), and they are on a 22 game winning streak....I am worried about this match up!

Pargo has got to play out of his mind!
Go Zags!

Not just Pargo, the whole team needs to come to play!  I'm worried about this game too, Davidson is no pushover, they played UNC, Duke, NC State, and UCLA pretty competitively.  However, the fact that they lost each game means that they're beatable, and the Zags have beaten much better teams on the road (think UCONN) and played competitively against much better teams on the road (think Memphis, Tennessee, Oklahoma, etc).  The Zags should have a mental edge here, BUT absolutely must come with a killer instinct.  If Heytvelt is ready to play like a big boy, nows the time to come out and dominate!  I think we can win this one, but it won't be easy.  Georgetown'll give us a hell of a time if we do win!  But, once again, they're beatable...and the Zags have taken down giants before (think UNC last year...).
Time to shine boys!!!  GO ZAGS!!!!

This one is a scary one. I hate when they match the Zags up with other top notch mid-majors. It takes the underdog aspect out of the equation.

Another reason I worry is because Davidson is guard dominated and a team that shoots more three's than any other. Zags haven't defended well against three point shooting teams for a couple years now. If you look at the Zags' losses this year its because of the opponent's guard play (except Oklahoma). Even when they lost to Texas Tech, it was a guard for them that went off for 28.

I like the matchup with Georgetown. I think we play well against teams with a strong front court. UNC last year, UCONN this year.

I sure hope they play like they are capable of. I'm tired of wanting so much for this team and being dissappointed. Not necessarily when they lose, but when they don't even show up. Zags have lost that tournament edge that they used to have. People would pick them as their darlings every year, even when they were the higher seed, and now because of too many lack luster tournament appearances, people have lost faith.

Zags have to win, I would love to see them matched up against Georgetown. It would be a win that would get the nation back in their corner. It would be the kind of win that solidifies recruiting for the next 3-4 years. GO ZAGS

I agree with all of the above. I think the Zags need to do  3 things in order to go deep this year. 1) Offensive rebounding- zags have been poor this season in doing this ; defensive their ok with. 2) transition game- I thinks the Zags try to play too much 1/2 court ball ( also important in the tourney) this is what kills then against a very athletic team like Tennesee. 3) Dominate the paint- This is one thing where we absolutely sucked at this year. Heytfelt needs to get with it and play like we all know he can, Other wise I am glad to see 3 WCC teams make it. Is anyone shocked that Cougs got a 4 seed????? I am I thought 6 or 7 at best? any Thoughts??

It blows that Davidson is basically playing a home game. Funny how it seems as though the Zags don't ever catch any breaks.  I don't know anything about Davidson, but I do know the Gonzaga has to play better then they gave the last couple of games. We need an effort like when we played Memphis!  GO ZAGS!!!!!

I think they're going to have to play Gurganious a lot on Curry as he's the closest thing to a defensive stopper they have at the 2 or 3.  Heytvelt's play won't necessarily be critical for them to win this game IF Pargo, Bouldin, Gray, Daye and Downs play well, but Josh will be absolutely critical to have a chance against Georgetown and Hibbert if they get there.  Davidson - especially in North Carolina - will be tough.  Don't get me wrong - it certainly won't hurt if Heytvelt plays well against Davidson.  If we come out like we did against  Santa Clara or San Diego we're done.

If the Zags do shut the Perimeter down , The only option that will Davison Have is in the paint and this is where Josh will be crutial against Davison. I know With Curry and the other PG that they contribute 65% of their offense. I Think Pargo can do a good man to man on Curry we will have this game licked. GO ZAGS!

Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but I think Gonzaga should be in pretty good shape unless Curry gets ridiculously hot from 3. More than anything it comes down to the fact that Gonzaga is taller at basically every position on the floor and on the bench. Add to that the fact that Gonzaga has 3 players on that bench that would most likely start for Davidson and you're looking at a pretty favorable matchup for Gonzaga.

It will be interesting to see how this one plays out, but unless Curry puts the team on his shoulders, I see Gonzaga winning pretty easily. Here's hoping...

Also, Curry isn't very big and the Zags can hopefully wear him down a bit by driving/posting him with Pargo, Bouldin, et. al.

This is true except if the Zags get out played like they did in the WCC tourney then They will loose. I want the Zags to go at least to the sweet 16.

When the Zags go with their big lineup and Curry has to guard Pargo he is really going to get beat up, particularly in the post where Pargo (or Bouldin) likes to go. The only problem there is one of them has to guard Curry, which is not a very favorable match up. Load the perimeter up with help and make Davidson's posts have to score one on one againt Kuso, Heytvelt. THat should give them some problems. But, the Zags have struggled with good, quick scoring guards in the past. I'm a little nervous about it but if the Zags show up they should have a decent chance to win. Love to see them play Georgetown in the second round. Seems to be a team that Gonzaga could really push hard and possibly beat. Go Zags!!

most of the "critics" are picking Davidson to win. They basically said that both teams are close in stats but Davidson Has a better PG Curry and are on a 22 game win streak plus playing a home game. Where as the Zags don't have the team this year as they did in the past. I agree with some of this but I feel that Zags can pull this off if they fire on all cylinders. Again no respect from the critics. I feel that they are giving up on the Zags due to the recent "one-and-done" showing at the tourney. GO ZAGS!!!!!

I personally haven't seen Curry play, but I find it hard to believe he's any better than Pargo.  He does score a bit more than Pargo, but you have to consider that Curry is the only real scoring option on the team, so he should be scoring a ton.

As far as their win streak...it looks very impressive until you look at the competition.  Davidson started the season 4-6 including losses to Western Michigan, Charlotte, and NC State.  Magically when they started playing the horrible teams in their conference they put together a string of victories.  Their only decent win in the streak (and only win against a tournament team) was against Winthrop. It's pretty safe to say that Gonzaga, St. Mary's, and probably even San Diego would have the exact same streak and most likely wouldn't have lost to any of the 3 teams I listed above if they had played the same schedule.

I'm really interested to see if they actually improved that much over the course of the season or if this is that same 4-6 team that just happened to play a bunch of terrible teams. I'm hoping it's the latter, but even if it's the former I still think they're outmatched.

I hope your right. Pargo is under rated and does not get enough credit in the nations eye. I hould love to see a sweet 16 run or more from our Zags this year!
