It looks like that we will be getting Eric "the Bondsman" Parker back from his recent toe injury. He missed out all of last year with a broken toe. He comes back to the Chargers different then as he left it. We now have Chris Chambers as our starter followed by Vincent Jackson then an assortment of third type receivers: Legedu Naanee, Buster Davis and Malcom Floyd.

Keep him? He's always been reliable and he's a Veteran Leader! Or trade him? He's starting to get old!

What do we do?

He's a great possession receiver with experience and work ethic. I think Malcolm Floyd is the odd-man-out.

I'm not sure...

Vincent Jackson had a tremendous second half of the season. his improvement started around the time Chris Chambers came along. Coincidence? Perhaps. Some players need to be pushed I guess?

There was another thread that said Eric Parker might be trade bait for a low draft pick? After sitting out the whole year how much has his worth dropped?

For now the Chargers appear to be deep at the receiver position whether it's WR or TE. I would like to see 6'-7" Scott Chandler on the field more to see what havoc he can wreek...

GO CHARGERS

Beat the Raiders, Broncos, Chiefs, Colts, Patriots, Cowboys, Packers, Giants...

Floyd is gone for sure, but you didn't mention Osgood.  Because of his special team ability, Osgood may take the final receiver spot and make Parker the odd man out unless the Chargers decide to keep 6 receivers.

I don't know if anyone else noticed but on the official Chargers Web site under Roster they have Kassim Osgood listed as a Wide Receiver....

Or was that his position out of college???

Kassim Osgood is a wide receiver. Nobody on a team is just a special teams player except for the kickers. Osgood is technically a WR who happens to play great special teams. I think he took a few snaps at WR in 2006 if I'm not mistaken. He's also been making noise this offseason about getting more playing time at his "true" position.

Without question keep him...He has gotten the Chargers out of some serious pinches in the past. He is a huge play maker and other teams underestimate his abilities; leaving him open for those huge plays. He is a stealth receiver and a secret weapon for the Chargers offense...it's a no brainer.

Eric Parker is a good possession receiver and a good teammate. But, it's hard to see how he fits in now, because he isn't suited for any well-defined role.

Starter -- It's unlikely he could beat out Chris Chambers or Vincent Jackson. Also, Antonio Gates is basically a wide receiver in Norv Turner's offense.

Backup -- The Chargers would prefer to get some playing time for the future (Craig Davis and Legedu Naanee). And, Parker doesn't play special teams (doubt he'll merit a roster spot as a punt returner).

So, I bet A.J. Smith tries to trade him and would take a real late draft pick for him. Otherwise, IMO, he'll be a June 1st cut.

Parker is our best route runner and moves the chains on third down.  Very important to keep drives going.  Forget his last game... not the sum of his career.  Until Davis develops, he's our third WR.

LightsOut agreed, not only that but on this offense were LT (obviously) Gates, Chambers and Jackson will be the focal points on the offense a solid low keyed player like Parker will be more of a threat than ever before.

I would be happy if Eric Parker leaves. He is not consistent enough and fumbles alot. Id rather give some of the younger guys a chance

Is far as I know Eric Parker has had 1 Fumble in his 4 year Carer with the San Diego Chargers.

Yes their were 3 dropped ball in the Playoff game, but we didn't lose cause of him. He is very consistent with a 10+ yard per catch average. He's very reliable on third downs and the  players praise him on his route running abilities.

Sure their have been incompletion's, but that can been the QB's fault too!

We need to give him a year. He is a professional and did have some big contribution two years ago. We couldn't get anything for him in a trade anyway! Until Buster proves that he can be relied on we need another "good hands" guy. Kassim is more likely to be traded because he's whining and maybe someone will give up something for a special teams FREAK. Isn't it great to be worrying about our 4th and 5th receivers and not our number 1 or 2?  Receiver may be the hardest position to fill from the draft, it takes forever for most of them to develop and it's still a crapshoot. It would be nice to have a 2nd rounder but I still think AJ made the right call to get Chambers.

GO BOLTS!!!!

AJ for President!!!

Broncos, Raiders, Chiefs, Colts, Patriots, Jaguars, Giants, Cowboys, Packers, Seahawks all suck.

You guys are dreaming if you think AJ Smith is going to let Craig Davis fall below 3rd on the depth chart.

Young receivers don't improve by never seeing the field, and the Chargers still think Davis can play. If Eric Parker stays, he will be the guy at the 4-WR (5-WR if you count Gates). NFL teams don't like to keep aging, non-special teams contributors buried on their depth charts. So, Parker is likely gone whether we like it or not.

GO BOLTS
