I'm pretty much speechless at what the Tar Heels have done in these past two games. The only was to describe it is "near perfection". This is an amazing group of athletes, who are all very much likable kids. They are playing the best basketball I've seen in a long time, college or pro. I've heard all the arguments that their defense is sub-par or that another team with stifling defense will overcome them, but to tell you the truth, the way they look right now is just unbelievable. They DO have a good defense, but really only play it when it's absolutely necessary, like the end of the second d00k game. They held d00k scoreless for the last 5 minutes of the game. So it's there, they just don't HAVE to use it.

When they won the Championship back in 2005, people made arguments about how Roy was only able to win with someone else's (Matt Daugherty's) players and not his own. It's time to shut those critics up. This team looks superior to that team, and have shown it time and time again. The only missing piece of the puzzle? The trophy. They'll have that soon enough.

Your right with the notion of Near Perfection.I only hope Roy can bring them back down to Earth, and keep it going. We see what hgappened when you are a little unsure about yourself. Hint hint Georgtown and Da Dookies.I know they will go to Charlotte and win with all the home folks behind them. You can see the flaws in all the other Number 1 seeds.I don't see anything going wrong as long as they stay healthy. See ya in San Antonio.

Unlike the other number 1 seeds, North Carolina is doing what they're supposed to be doing in the early rounds--win their games by convincingly. But for all of you who think North Carolina is invincible and can cruise to the final four, perhaps you'd better take a closer look at its next opponent. Washington State's defensive performance has been every bit as impressive as North Carolina's offense, and it plays in the toughest conference in the land--it's used to playing week in and week out against quality opponents. North Carolina is a great team, no doubt about it--but a loss to Wazzu wouldn't be an upset.

While a loss to Wazzu is not impossible, it is improbable and definitely would be ranked an upset.  Check out the computer simulations of the head-to-head available on the www for confirmation of the fact.  None of this is to say that Wash. St. does not play terrific defense that will impact the Heels performance.  Doubtful that impact will be sufficient, however.

Wazzu does have a very good defense but are you implying that it could totaly disrupt there offense to the point of holding them to what? 65pts, because that is what it will have to be for them to win.

They have no-one that can stop lawson, which creates the dish to hansborogh/thompson or the out to ellington. Honestly unless the can totaly stop Carolinas regular offense and force them to play a very slow half court game they have no chance, its not like were Memphis and we won't hit our ft's.

The fact is this Carolina will push it which will expose the fact that Washington St. does have a good defense if you ASSUME that the team is going to run a 1/2 court offense. Which Carolina won't they'll have 30 pts in transition way before Wash great defense even gets back.

Carolina 88

Wash St. 75

Pretty much what Notre Dame said going in averaging 81 points a game. I didn't  think the Cougs could hold the Irish under 65.  The Heels are  going to be the toughest test yet. Your Heels are incredible to watch. Yet no one in the East plays defense like this. I hope for a fantastic game. I have been reading your boards for a couple years. You are real fans and have the best posts.

So they beat a 16th seed and a 9th seed.  This should be expected from the overall number one seed in the tournament.

Near perfection?  Just wait till they play someone who is some competition.

MMMM  didn't really consider Wisconsin an east coast team. They do play the same style d wsu does because they had the same architect. Haven't seen too much of GT (and won't be seeing anymore of them) but I sure didn't think there Defensive style was any where near as tenacious as WSU.  And as for UNC not playing a half court, the style of WSU and Wisc force you to play half court. ND and their high powered offense had 0 fast break points against WSU.

But please by all means believe that UNC is too good to succumb to  defensive pressure, the Cougs are going to need UNC to be over confident and a little luck.

I'm not sure if you've seen WSU play.  Regardless of who they play, they force you into the halfcourt offense.  They've allowed 80 points for an opponent just once this year, and are playing their best defense of the year.  Look at how many transition baskets they give up in a game.  The cougs almost never crash the offensive boards, which lets almost everybody get back on defense and prevent the running style you are accustomed to at UNC.  In addition to that UNC rarely plays good defense at all.  Considering that WSU's way of playing limits possessions, offensive efficiency is a must.  It's kind of funny that the cougs still usually don't get the respect they deserve.  They played two completely different styles in their first two games, and beat both teams easily.  While we still are the underdogs, I wouldn't underestimate the cougs like you seem to be...  I think it will be a great game, and good luck to your heels.

JPhillips, that's exactly what I'm implying--Wazzu's defense will confuse and confound North Carolina, and they'll feel like they're playing some game other than the basketball they're used to playing. That's Wazzu's great equalizer in this game. As I said, North Carolina is without question a very good basketball team--but I wouldn't regard a WSU win as an upset. I rate this game even--a great offense against a great defense. The one big advantage NC may have though, is the home crowd.

When a 4 seed beats a 1 seed it always is considered an upset.  Washington state does have a good defense.  They will hold the heels to 80 points.  The problem with that is that they will only score 65-70.

WOW!!! How good do the Tarheels look? If they can keep up this high level of play, they should be our NCAA champions this year...  The energy they are putting off is unbeliveable. Lawson looks fast again, It seems as though he is back to his old self. The bench has been reliable, and Tyler Hansbrough looks GREAT like always... The Tarheels have stepped up and have put theirselves in a great position to make a run for the title...   (If you ask me this is the team to beat!!!)
