Could Xavier give UCLA a run for it's money? Answer in the poll.

It's the NCAA tournament and the Elite Eight no doubt. Every game will be close.  Anyone who says no does not watch basketball.

kemmena, I agree. I won't be shocked if Xavier wins it as well.

Xavier plays an excellent brand of team basketball, and the fact they were down by six in O.T. and didn't panic is an indication that they are well-coached and mentally tough enough to give UCLA a go.  The Bruins let an inferior Western Kentucky squad back in the game before waking up and taking care of business.

Xavier definitely has a shot at upsetting UCLA.  I just don't see it happening, though.  Too many horses in that barn for the X men to overcome.......should be one helluva game.  The Bruins  win by about 5-7 points.

Xavier has  great shot at beating UCLA.  From what I have seen, UCLA is definitely beatable.  X is solid all around, and looking very strong.  I think they kncok off UCLA.

As a fan of niether team, from what I have seen so far, Xavier should feel very confident in their chances to take the Bruins down. I only got to see Xavier a couple of times this year, but they have looked very impressive when I did see them. I have also seen UCLA play a couple of times. They also have been impressive. But I do not think they are dominate enough to be a clear cut favorite in this game based on their recent play in the big dance. Either team can win this game if they play well. I would not consider it a big upset if Xavier wins this game. As a #1 seed UCLA is supposed to win this game so all the pressure is on them.

Can Xavier give UCLA a run?  Sure, especially if they play defense and shoot the ball like they did in the first half against my Mounties.  I do think UCLA will win, mainly because of Kevin Love and the inside presence of the Bruins.  WVU doesn't have that, and Wellington Smith, who is improving but not near on the level of Love, was the key to WVU battling back from their 28-10 deficit (he scored 7 or 8 points during a 10-0 WVU run).  So I give the edge to UCLA, but I would not discount Xavier.  To keep their heads in the midst of WVU's comeback, to have a player who hadn't scored all game nail two crucial three-pointers and score eight total points in OT?  That's what winners are made of.

Yes, Xavier can beat UCLA. Will they? Probably not. But it depends on how both teams actually perform on the court.  X has a shutdown man-to-man defense and some great inside and outside shooting.  They work the ball inside with such dedication that they usually get to the free throw line a lot, and they hit their free throws.  UCLA has a size advantage inside which will probably be the deciding factor in the game, especially since Love does not foul that much.  But UCLA could be cold, or X could get some lucky bounces.  I'd give X about a 20% chance of pulling off an upset.

For those of you not familiar with X, here's some interesting stats (from memory, so some of these are approximated):
* X has graduated something like 75 straight players
* X has gone undefeated over the last 2 February's
* X is rated as one of the top 20 programs in all of Division I, the ONLY such school that is not in one of the 6 BCS conferences
* X is the only team in D1 this year that has 6 players averaging double figure scoring
