What the hell were the Mets wearing at the Civil Rights Game in Memphis today? ESPN said they were "retro" uniforms. Unless the Mets started playing somewhere before 1962, I've NEVER seen them were anything that looks like that. Nor did the Brooklyn Dodgers or the New York Giants ever look like that. I hope they were just spring training uniforms. Enough with the uniforms already. Bring back the Mets script in pinstripes for home and gray flannel with NEW YORK in block letters for away. And step messing with the caps! They're supposed to be robin's egg blue for the Dodgers and an orange NY for the Giants. Get rid of the black garbage. We're not the Raiders!
They were "old school" uniforms, perhaps mimicking those worn by players in the Negro Leagues. While certainly not my favorite uniforms, I respected and appreciated them under the circumstances.
A further mea culpa. When I said get rid of the black garbage, I meant the black uniforms and caps we've been wearing the past few years. It wasn't a reference to the uniforms at the game which (unknown to me) were Negro league uniforms. Open mouth, insert foot.
I dont know, I kinda like the black unis, but i feel that they wear them too much. And as to the black, why not have a color that is unique to the Mets. The way it is now we have a bit of the Dodgers (dodger blue as it is called i believe) and the Giants (giant orange, original I know) and a little bit of the Mets, something that is bold and stands out a bit.
Perfectly nice uniforms here for this instance. It would be a nice touch if they auctioned off the game-worn unis on Ebay or something, with proceeds going to the Negro League vets.
Yes, the traditional is much better. I love the Mets!! Hopefully they will be in the series this year against those darn Yankees. I hate those arrogant jerks!

You forgot about the Sh!tty Stankees pin stripes to go along with the Dodgers Blue and Giants Orange,
Tartans-I refuse to concede that the Mets got anything from that team in the junior circuit. Now I'm going to have to do some research to support a tenuous argument that the Giants wore pinstripes before the Yankees. Thanks a lot.
Let me give you a little more info. because you may not find to much on the Troy Haymakers
Troy Haymakers (1871-1872) --- were a member of the National Association, the first professional baseball league. The National Association (1871-1875) several of its clubs created the succeeding National League.
Became the
Troy Trojans (1879-1882)
Become the
New York Gothams (1883-1885) --- theGothams took the Trojans place in the National League. Nearly half of the original Gotham players were members of the recently disbanded Troy Trojans.
