yeah, hack. There used to be bad blood. Like when that Pirates announcer (Rooker?)said he'd walk back home to Pittsburgh from Philly if the Pirates lost a 10 run lead to the Phils back in the 80s.
Classic days.... Classic days, indeed.

Actually, didn't the Pirates get their name because they stole a player from Philly? That was waaaayyyyyyy back. Those teams are old. It may have even been the Philadelphia A's come to think of it.

I go with option C!
The Marlins fanbase or the lack there of.
Its simple, Marlin fans show up to the stadium and support your team. End result more revenue that transpires into a higher payroll. Alex Rodriquez making more than their entire payroll should be considered a milestone for him. Ive never met the person that turns down money or takes less than he can get, have you? Arod haters!!!!

What that actually says is this:
1891 - The Alleghenies are renamed Pirates after signing second baseman Louis Bierbauer away from the Philadelphia Athletics.
Darn cut and paste function....

The fact that the Marlins ownership does not want to open their pockets and play their players and just trade them away when their price might get a little too high!

The owners in baseball are all rich and just choose to spend their money different. SOme owners care more about winning and some care about keeping costs low.
Here is the response from Marlins managment.
Some owners feel that it takes high priced talent to win championships, other owners realize that there is some unrecognized talent that is more affordable and better suited for the team as a whole than the highest paid players in all of MLB. Thus it is possible to win championships without paying top dollar for individuals.
This is a made up quote.
I don't know why, I just felt like throwing that out there. I don't exactly agree with the quote myself, but I imagine that the Marlins management would provide a response somewhat similar to this.
Personally, I am just getting tired of seeing the Marlins roller coaster payroll. If this were a consistent payroll for the Marlins, that would be one thing. but considering the ups and downs of their payroll over the last few years, I am just glad that I am not a fan of the Marlins.

A team in Las Vegas, or even Portland wouldn't be a bad idea, but moving them to the AL would bring up a problem. Then both leagues would have an odd number of teams and that would create a problem. - Larry_jones
First off, if MLB puts a team in Vegas, I would imagine that more than 80% of the fans that attend the games there are going to be people that are not even fans of the Marlins or whatever they name the team, if they change the name. Either that or the attendance would be identical to what they get in Miami, since there are just as many things to do in Miami as there is to do in Vegas. That is one of the main reasons that attendance in Miami is terrible. As far as Portland is concerned, that could probably work out as well as the Trailblazers are working outin the NBA.
Second, in regards to moving the Marlins to the AL West when they change locations, I actually love this idea. Yes, it does make it so that both the AL and the NL have an odd number of teams. There is a really simple solution to this. During the last few years, we have had just a portion of one month where the teams participate in interleague play. Well, after this move we would just have to have at least one interleague game going on just about every day (next 2 teams may have a travel day). I don't see how this could be a bad thing. In all of the other three major sports in America, there is interleague play going on every single week, up until the playoffs. I imagine that every team would still be facing the same number of interleague games, only they would be spread out throughout the entire season instead of bunched together.
Someone else mantioned moving the Pirates to the NL East when the Marlins are moved to the AL West. I have no problem with that, especially if it strengthens the Phillies - Pirates rivalry. Strong rivalries are great for baseball. In addition to that, every division in baseball would be five teams deep. That is about as fair as baseball could possibly be.

I agree with C. Most cities that won 2 world series in ten years would have near sell-outs for many years. The Marlins have won 2 world series ,the Yankees none since A-rod joined the team

The Yankees none since Alex Rodriguez joined the team.
A player doesnt win a championship a team does. The Yankees had much better pitching during there mind blowing string of World Series rings and appearances.
The Redsox will prove you wrong if you think payroll has nothing to do with winning.. Yes a team can win with a low payroll but not often. I do recall the Marlins having players such as Mike Piazza and Gary Sheffield as well as many others.. Al Leiter ect. ect. ect.
Big payroll and a lot of injured players doesnt do a team any good either. My point is only this... show up to the game support the team and give them a reason to put big name players on the field. If not dont expect to see more than what the Marlins have on the field now.

Screw A-Rod and screw the Marlins. They're both pathetic. Like A-Rod didn't have enough money already when his last contract came up. That weasel is out for no one but himself. If he really wanted to win he would take less so more would be available to sign mid level players that can actually help the team.
I hate the Yankees more than any professional franchise and I know their monetary resources are greater than any other team, but it's still limited. His ego is bigger than his playing ability and he'll never win a championship.
The Marlins are pathetic just because of their fan base, or lack there of. How is an owner supposed to draw the top players to his team when you average (guessing here) 3-7 thousand people per game? Maybe it's ownership, lack of marketability, maybe it's just too f**king hot in Miami to be outside during the summer. I don't freaking know.
All I know is that baseball needs to adopt a salary cap akin to the NFL. I truly feel bad for teams like the Pirates, Royals, Marlins, A's, Twins, Rays. These teams just can't compete in this market. It won't happen but it needs to change.

Hey ... we work in a market economy ... the market pays what it can sustain. I don't blame Arod or any other player who makes what they earnm ... face it, if we could get that kind of money for what we do, we'd do it in an instant. The sickening fact is, there are owners like Jeffrey Loria of the Marlins, who, are within their right to turn a profit, absolutely take advantage of the rules and make money hand over fist without reinvesting it into the roster. Exactly what stopped him from, extending his all star third baseman and pitcher to multi year contarcts ? If they each made , oh, I don't know, 15 to 20 million a year each, their payroll would be a whopping $60 million? In a market the size of Miami's? OK so they don't draw... their slice of the pie more than covers their payroll ...it's cheap a$$ owners like this that are ruining the game... not the big market owners who pay market prices!
