interesting to think about...

You own the 5th pick in an NFL draft. Your team has a pro bowl running back who is injured quite often and a developing young QB who is coming off the bench from the previous year. Your former starting quarterback decides to not resign with you after your offensive line lets him get sacked the most times in the league. Your defense is average but getting old. The team is heading down a dangerous path because your young QB needs a few years to develop or someone to take the pressure off of him to win now but your fans are restless and sick of losing. Your owner cannot let you spend anymore money on big name FA either...so you really need this pick to fall through.

Here's the situation, somehow a star running back who was projected to be picked within the first 3 pick falls to you at the 5th pick. Meanwhile the top two OL and defensive players have been already drafted. Also the top QB is still on the board but is only projected to be worth a 15-20th pick. What do you do?   

Trade down.  Pick up an additional 3rd round pick from a team who needs a stud RB.  There a lot of good OL prospects this year.  Many of the starters on my team's OL came from compensatory picks in the 4th and 5th rounds.  (GB)

Or take the best player available - RB

The last thing you want to do is burn the 5th pick on a QB that's projects at 15 to 20.  Trade down and get the QB later if you need a QB.

Not sure if a rookie qb will help the situation at all, so wouldnt go that way. As far as Mcfadden the "experts" dont think he has much lateral ability but never know. If it were my team I would try to build what you do best and get an O lineman.

If you can get the other Arkansas rb (Felix) in the later round that would be a good pick up for insurance.

This is not based on the Chefs?

1. 5th Pick in the Draft
2. Pro bowl RB who was injured
3. Young QB
4. O-Line issues
5. No big name FAs signed

You're right it doesn't sound familar... I'll play along any way. If star running back falls to the 5th pick, some hypothetical team will pass on him. They won't reach for an over-rated QB although the smoke screen has been set. Hypothetical team drafts next top DT at #5 and picks up OL with say the 35th pick.

first i said they have no more money for free agents not that they cant/havent signed any...so besides the whole 5th pick, it sounds more familiar to Miami (2. Ronnie Brown, 3. John Beck, 4.sucky line, 5. no money being thrown around by Parcells) or Oakland (2. Justin Fargas 3. JaMarcus Russell, 4. sucky line, 5. no more money after D.Hall got his contract) or San Francisco (2. F. Gore (i think he was injuried?), 3. Alex Smith, 4. sucky but improving, 5. no dinero) or even Arizona (2. E. James 3.Matt Leinart, 4. no line 5. no money) or etc...see, besides the 5 pick, many teams are faced with this kind of situation 

What's the big deal with just naming the Chiefs? Oh, you did in your April 8 post.....
