This question was brought up during last night's broadcast.  Considering the advantages and disadvantages of both, would you personally keep bringing Gilbert off the bench or get him in the starting lineup (as a general strategy going in...conditions may of course change)?

He should definitely stay coming off the bench. Like Eddie Jordan said, he isn't going to be the true Arenas until next season comes around because he still has to return to full game shape and do a lot of work to get things back to where they were before the surgeries. He seems to be doing well enough off the bench, and they don't want him rushing back to the starting 5 and risk putting him back on the shelf despite how well his knees has held up so far. The team has shown the ability to win with him out of the lineup and seems to be doing just fine with him adding decent minutes and points off the bench. There is plenty of time after the season ends to figure out how to fit him back in without disrupting the chemistry developed without him.

The Wizards are better with Arenas in the lineup!  Inferior players tend to watch when he is on the court.  Butler and Jamison can play on his level. AD is very good at controlling the tempo in games and an underrated defensive player.  Whatever Coach Jordan does it will not be the wrong move because the game tempo and players abilities decides who should be on the court.  Arenas should be on the court with the Washington Wizards period.....The opposing teams cannot layoff him at 70% of his ability.

There is no question that they are better with him the the lineup, but why rush him back just because he's been cleared to play? He clearly isn't playing the same way right now, and until he shows he trusts himself to be 100% Gil, he shouldn't be thrown back into the fire.

I agree that even at 70% teams pay close attention to him just because of what he is capable of, but they need only keep a close eye on him until he returns to form. Until which he should keep coming off the bench to build up to that return.

Depends on how his knee reacts to the minutes he is being played.  If he isnt able to go very long he should come off the bench.

He should come off the bench.

However there is no reason why he should not be playing 25-30 minutes a game. He can give them a scoring lift in the 2nd quarter.

I think eddie jordan should keep playing Gil off of the bench.  It's honestly been working out.  Last night Gil had a ridiculous 4th quarter and was extremely helpful in pulling the win over phili.  Just proves its working out.  Now that Detroit just won today we officially locked up the 5 seed and atleast for our first series I would keep things just the way they have been and start thinking about starting gil later in the playoffs or if we get into trouble.

If Gil can continue to play unselfish ball coming off the bench, he's going to be dangerous.  The Wiz can be dangerous in the playoffs if a healthy big 3 work together and feed off each other and utilize the role players properly.

I agree that Arenas should come off the bench. Let him get into the flow of the game in the first half but still get plenty of rest so he can play 15 ish minutes (or more as the case may be) in the second half. We do not need Agent Zero for the first quater, we need him for the fourth, and I think that by coming off the bench Gil wil be better able to do what he did for us against the 76ers. No need to blow out his knee, let him come off the bench, be a contributer, and be healthy and rested enough to make plays for us in crunch time.

Well said, everybody.  I'm sure Coach Jordan will do what's best for the team.  It seems to be quite obvious what that will be, but who knows?  If something tells him that Gilbert's gonna score 30 points in the first quarter, he'd better put him in!  Otherwise, however, I completely agree: bring him off the bench, Eddie.  Bring it, Cavs.

I see Agent Zero coming off the bench for now... if the Wiz move on in the playoffs, he'll see so much floor time that it won't matter.... Eddie will play him so much that you won't even notice that he didn't start as long as he stays healthy

No, but he should def play him more....i think eddie managed Gils playing time badly....

he should play him 7 minutes a Quarter...hes allowed to play 30 minutes, right?

7 mns a Q is only 28 minutes...so maybe even 8 a Q

Personally i would say allow him to sit.  But if we lose again so that we would be down 2-0 we may need a little jump start and in the case i would say start him.

Keep him on the bench. Clearly the Wizards got to the playoffs without him, and he blew a few jumpers at the end of game 1 to let the Cavs win. That game could have gone either way. It basically came down to the last 3 minutes with the best two players on the court. Lebron and Gilbert; we know who made their shots at that point. The Wizards NEED a play or two that is a guarantee 2 points in situations like that. We've got a better team, but they have Lebron.
