What a horrible recap.  It was so onesided acting as if the refs are the reason detroit is up 2-0.

No the better team won flat out.  I watched every minute of those games and nashville got some big breaks too.  The difference, they didnt cash in, which is what good teams do.  That call they made on hasek today for flopping, he got pulled down by the stick.  Even the announcers made a comment about it and showed the replay.  Flat out, the better team won.  Nashville needs to quit whining and play hockey.  Its the playoffs, real men step up.

For crying out loud, the Red Wings held Nashville to 12 shots TOTAL over the last two periods.  Was it the refs that kept intercepting Nashville passes?  Were they the ones diving and blocking shots so Hasek didnt even have to makes saves the last two periods?  No!  Quit whining and step up.  Also the author took this to a new low in buying into the talk b/c nashville was complaining so much.  They whined about that goal early that was called off b/c the net came off.  Thats cause it was off way before the shot went in.  And for those saying he got pushed into it.  He was jostling with the Red Wings player.  Is the Wings player supposed to just stand there while he is getting pushed.  The Wings player had better position, simple as that.  Any Nashville fans out there, that display was pathetic.  Has your team been whining that much all year?  Did they whine that much against San Jose last year?

What game were you watching??? The Preds dominated the first period.  They got robbed of the first goal of the game.  The Hasek penalty was legit.  I agreed with you at first, but on the replay they showed that he was the one that knocked Arnotts stick into his leg.

The Red Wings were not the one's breaking up passes and making great plays.  The refs were the one's making some ticky tack calls and most of all the Preds were the one's that lost the game by playing horrible transition D and making passes with their heads down.  (Zidlicky has to be the worst defender of the playoffs!!)

Yeah the Wings should probably win this series, but not because they are playing better.  The Preds are the ones losing this series.  Look out when the series goes the Nashville.  Expect to come back to Detroit with the series tied 2-2.

Being a Red Wings fan, I can say that they made a lot more of their chances than they usually do, but they still missed too many easy ones.  Filppula's day was particularly pathetic, and Datsyuk turned a few good chances into great chest saves for Dan Ellis, who turned in a pretty good day regardless of Detroit's misses.  A few more offensive days like today and Nashville won't have to whine about officiating.  I really find it astounding that Detroit is actually catching a few breaks, but the officials let more than a few calls against the Predators go today, as usual, so they don't have anything to whine about.  You still have to make the most of the good breaks, and the Red Wings did more of that than Nashville did.  At any rate, the bottom line is that the Predators still have two more chances to take home ice advantage back from Detroit, which may have been the real decider today.

Your stupid and couldn't describe the last 2 games to save your life  the redwings  have gotten all the calls so far,  the botched non review of the goal the preds should have got hell last week in washington the refs went back about 30 seconds  after the play stoped to change the call to give the Panthers a goal  and that was the right call Even though Im a Cap fan they GOT THE CALL  RIGHT the no call on the offside in game 1,   please idiot explain to me why these calls had nothing to do with the outcome.

You would be complaining too if your team was 3 goals in the hole over 2 games due to bad calls (conveniently also the goal differential of the games excluding the empty net goal).  Detroit owes their 2 game lead to the refs regardless how the other 115 minutes of hockey were played.  It is not the way an entire game is played that decides things now it is the little things.  And when all the little things are going in your favor thanks to bad calls, no calls, and bogus reviews you will win every time.  You can't lose playing 9 men on 5 men.

I agree, whoever wrote the article is an idiot.  I saw the replay a few times, and Ellis played Holmstrom very well trying to get a penalty called, but Holmstrom's skates were not in the blue.  He was, however, not covered by a Nashville defender, which is the best reason that the puck went to the back of the net. A few more offensive days like today for the Predators, and Nashville won't have to whine about officiating, they will be at home until next season.  I really find it astounding that Detroit is actually catching a few breaks, but the officials let more than a few calls against the Predators go today, as usual, so they don't have anything to whine about.  You still have to make the most of the good breaks, and the Red Wings did more of that than Nashville did.  At any rate, the bottom line is that the Predators still have two more chances to take home ice advantage back from Detroit, which may have been the real decider today.

viking...how can i say they didnt have an effect on the outcome, because nashville got lots of calls too.  Over the course of a series it balances out.  It all has to do with who is the team that can take the chances and run with them.  BTW congrats on your win against philly cause i kind of want to see a caps wings final.  And no i wouldnt be complaining if my team was on the wrong side of the refs calls like someone on here said.  Why?  b/c be a man about it.  Good teams can overcome bad breaks.  As we have seen, nashville hasnt learned yet how to do that.  And redwings definitely outplayed nashville game one whoever said that nashville has outplayed the wings the whole series.  And yes nashville outplayed the wings in the 1st period but the 2nd and 3rd belonged to the wings.  12 total shots given up.  The 2 goals that nashville was able to get involved a lucky bounce off the board as hasek was out of net.  Although Red Wings had a fluky bounce off the skate also.  Then the other goal went right in dom's 5 hole, which is very unusual.  The 2nd and 3rd periods were definitely overall won by the wings, not the refs so again quit whining.

I tend to think media coverage is a lot like officiating -- it all balances out over time.  I think the article was pretty fair, giving both sides some airtime on the issue of the call of the game, as well as paying some personal tribute to Red Wings players (see Darren McCarty).  On the other hand, if it is a pro-Predators article, then it makes up for the unbearably pro-Red Wings coverage on NBC.  I love hearing about the Red Wings being "on the penalty kill" as opposed to the Predators being "on the power play", and there were no good stops by Dan Ellis... only good scoring chances by the Red Wings.  And for the love of Pete, it's pronounced zid-LIH-kee, not zid-LIS-kee.  Z-I-D-L-I-C-K-Y.  (I do not delude myself into thinking that NBC didn't pick that game because of the appeal of the Red Wings, but come on...)

As for the game itself, I agree that the better team won.  The Predators are simply outskilled and out-experienced by the Red Wings.  Jason Arnott, J.P. Dumont and Alexander Radulov are going to have to step it up -- the Predators can't rely on Jordin Tootoo, Rich Peverley and Jan Hlavac to score goals for them.  And ohhh, do the Predators miss Scott Nichol.  For the Wings, I've been really impressed lately with Johan Franzen -- but the last thing the Red Wings need more of is firepower.  The waived goal?  A crap call (another "intent to whistle" call).  The penalty on Dominik Hasek?  Also a crap call.  The replay on both was clear.

If the Predators lose game 3, it will be over in 4.  If they win game 3, they might be able to push the Red Wings to 5 or 6 games -- but skill almost always comes out on top in a best-of-seven series.  But don't tell that to the Western Conference last year (I think it was last year), when the 5, 6, 7 and 8 seeds all won.

Go Predators!

leeyore, that was a very good objective post, and then being a Predators fan made it even more impressive.  My post had to do with this one being onesided, but you are correct that overtime, it does even out--just like the officiating.

Anyways good luck, hopefully it turns out to be a great series.  Both games so far luckily have been very competitive.

Nashville's first non-goal was a bad call by the official...but he blew the whistle therefore the play was dead.  It happens all the time in hockey.  As for all the other calls it has been fairly solid from the zebras.  I haven't liked a lot of the calls, which means they are probably doing a decent job.

I'm not going to try do defend the network or the announcers...half the time they can't even figure out that its pronounced deTROIT and not DEEEEtroit.

Maybe the announcers are just watching too much Piston basketball lately....as we always say, "DEEEEEEEEEEEtroit Basketball!"  :)

I'm just glad the Pistons and Wings are playing so well....makes it a little easier to ignore the Tiger box scores lately! Ugh!!!

Let's Go Red Wings!!!

nashville dominated the first
shouldve had a 2-1 lead
hasek played great
second period
even
but nashville hit two posts in a row and missed a wide open net off dumonts pass
so this game could have easily went to nashville

russo,

you are right nashville dominated the first, although i thought the wings dominated the 2nd--just difference of opinion.

And i'm  not sayin it couldnt have gone nashvilles way, i'm just sayin Red Wings won--overall it will all even out--and so there should not be this much complaining when nashville got some calls too.  Make your own breaks, dont blame other people for losing your chances.  And russo, that last statement was not directed at you b/c your post was fine, just saying all that led me to it.

THe Preds started out hot and won the first period on effrt, but Detroit took over the game defensively i the 2nd and 3rd periods.  You can't win if you get outshoot 27 - 12 in the last two periods - at least not in a long playoff series.  OSUFAN is correct the better team won, and it had nothing to do with the officials!
