gotta give props to the Flyers, they beat the kids all game long. I really expected Brashear to stir something up in the 2nd in order to see if it would change the momentum. Semin had some good looks, but everyone else seemed to have fumblitis. I wonder if playing sudden death hockey for the past month has finally caught up with these guys. Looking forward to game 3.

Boudreau should have benched Mike Green. He played the worst out of a team that couldn't pass the puck to save their lives and thought that they could deke through 3 players at the drop of a hat. Very poor playing by the Caps. We'll see what Bruce does for game 3.

Well, well, well....where did over8ed's MVP-type play go??? He pulled a magical disappearing act. Caps look like crap. They are done. 14 shots in the last 2 periods when they needed to step it up. Yea looks like a Cups team to me...HAHAHA....Over8ed is not ready for playoff hockey. Now they are done because the momentum not only shifts to Philly, but so do the next two games. Caps will be down 3-1 when they go back to D.C. Way to step it up MVP!!!! Not an MVP performance in my book. HAHAHA...Where are all the high-stepping Caps fans now?? Crying their little eyes out probably. Good shutdown by the Flyers. Doesn't take much though to shut down a one man team though. But props given regardless!

haha totally agree # 8.
Actually i was wondering where all the (as the NBC announcer called them) Crapital fans are.
It was only a few days ago that they were claiming Mike Green being the best D in the league. Hmmm nice giveaway to Knuble that turned into a Jeff Carter goal. Lots of turnovers down low too. You know why? Because he is young and he doesnt want to be hit and thats what the Flyers do. They caused so many turnovers the Capitals looked horrible and the Flyers looked great.
Was also wondering where the Capital fans are that said our D and Goaltending was bad. Hmm Biron 3 shutouts in his last 4 starts. No goals against today. Only gave up 24 shots.
Just goes to show that you need a complete team and not one man to carry your team. Briere and Prospal were there in game one and now Carter and Umberger this game. Its called a team sport not a 1 man show.
Flyers play this well they should take it in 5.
O yea where are the Caps fans that called for a sweep?? Hmm quiet now....

Legionx39,
Well said! Biron's performance and the Flyer D will shut up these fairweather Cap fans for a while. They have their head between their legs running home to mommy now. There's no way, in my opinion, the Flyers will go back to D.C. with anything less than 2 wins in Philly.

you 2 guys are amazing!
I guess Gretzky, Mario, and even Sid & Evgeni sucked when they went pointless for a game. YOU guys are pathetic with your (ahem) analysis. Ridiculous! You know what? Sometimes a good team effort CAN shut down the best players in the NHL. And the game Green had today is no different from 80% of the games She-girl Gonchar has played in his career. Yeah, I have followed him for a long time, 8-ball probably thought the Pens drafted him.

The Caps lost their first game in 9 contests. Do you actually think that they will roll over and give Philly the series? I say give because Philly can't win this one on their own. This is just a speed bump. The Flyers are a team full of cheaters and goons. That can't take you any further than the penalty box. Caps need to hit more and remind Umberger of the playoff series where he couldn't remember his name. I guess that's the first thing they teach you in Philly. How to skate across center ice with your head down.

Yea but Gretzky and Mario had a team behind them. Oveckin doesn't.
Capitals didn't win game 1. The Flyers lost it, they completely handed it to you guys. If Flyers play their game it should be over in 5.
Why are you talking about Gonchar? He is on the Penguins. Green is young and shaky like most of the Capitals defense. Its defense that wins games as you saw today. Not always offense.
Plus please don't try comparing a Veteran like Gonchar to a youngster like Green. There is no comparison.

8-beyotch,
I'm not crying about a thing. Unlike you, I can view a game without my nose buried in a player's sphincter. The Flyers played a flawless game today. The Caps played their worst game in a very long time. The difference? 2 goals. I still like their chances in a 7 game series. Yeah, they have things to work on, and if they do not improve their puck control & PP, then they will likely lose the series.
Please come back when you can do something more than stick your thumbs in your ears, wiggle your fingers, and say "nyah-nyah-nyah" !

HAHAHAHAHA, VaSabresfan....thats funny.
I'm pretty sure the Flyers owned the Capitals today. If you think the Capitals gave that game to the Flyers then you are a moron.
Team full of cheaters lol? Thats funny how many games did Washington get an advantage because Ovechkin is on the team? Typical that you start whining after a game where, wait your profile name says your a Sabres fan? So why are you over here...o wait thats right your team didn't make the playoffs i forgot.
How is the team doing on the links VA?
If you could though, while your here crying. Can you tell me how the Flyers cheat i'm really interested to know that.
We are goons because we hit and your scared....thats all. Its hockey if you don't like contact, go watch basketball or tennis.
Cant take you any further than the penalty box? Where did Buffalo lead you VA? Not to the playoffs thats for sure.
Anything else you want to throw out there that I can completely shoot down?

Legionx39,
8-dumbazs is a Pens troll, that's why I compared Green's performance today to countless Gonchar games. I concur with your assessment that the Gretzky & Lemieux teams had more talent. Please tell me how that minimizes the skills of Ovechkin (as stated by 8-azs). I'm glad that you 2 have the ability to know for certain that the Caps have absolutely no chance in this series. I bet you have won the lottery at least a couple hundred times, right?
F-in' geniuses coming out of the woodwork here!

CapsAnd, no doubt this will be a great series. But Washington didn't play anyone good down the stretch to get to the playoffs. So even though they were hot they didn't really have any competition. 2 Goals is a huge difference in playoff hockey.
Its fine that you have confidence in your team you should, just like we have confidence in our team. I just think you caught in the wrong crowd here because we are used to the "fake" capital fans that dont know hockey and just come in and say Ovechkin is awesome. Yea hes good but guess what...when the Flyers shut him down the team does nothing. Flyers had the jitters in game one and they handed the game to the caps.
Capitals biggest problem is that their defense is suspect. You don't have very good veterans back their. You don't have a veteran goalie. And when your D gets hit they cough up the puck way too much. Capitals could not break out of the zone at all today and in the first game of the series the capitals were out played for the first 2 periods before the Flyers tried to sit back and ride the wave to the finish line. Which burnt them many times throughout the year.
So like you I feel this is a very favorable match up for the Flyers. As long as we play that same game this series should be done in 5-6 games with the Flyers taking it. We also will need Biron to play as well as he did today.

I'm sorry. I don't recall saying that Capitals did not have a chance. Am I wrong to route for my team to win in 5 games?
Ovechkin is a stud athlete and is very good player. I would take him over Crosby any day.
However, Ovechkin cannot do it himself. If the Capitals want a chance they need to have everyone chip in like game one. They also need the D to stop coughing up the puck and playing scared.
This will be a great series. Will the Flyers play this same way for the next 3 games...prob not. Will they win 3 in a row...they could. But i'm a Flyers fan so im going to have that confidence that they do both.

This is what solid team play will give you, solid wins. They stuck to their gameplan, created the turnovers and just simply outshot the Capitals. Flyers were pissed about giving away the first game, and Biron was upset about giving up so many goals he decided to have his 3rd shutout in 4 games. Yeh, that was some great goalwork by Marty, he's been on fire. Now the Flyers have the momentum and they're bringing it home to a Philly crowd that's gonna get rowdy and shake the entire complex and get behind their team. Capitals are going to have a hard time winning any games here.
Legion, totally agree that the whole "playing back" and "riding the wave" when you have a lead has cost the Flyers too many games. They realize this now, you saw it in their play in the 3rd period today. They were playing like the game was tied. This is the playoffs, you don't go out there and play till you have a lead. No, you play balls to the wall for 60 minutes. Doesn't matter if you're up 2-0 or 6-0...play hard all the way, let them know you won't ever back down and you'll be in their face all day long when they share that ice with you.
