i really dont understand this move... i would get it if patterson was batting anywhere near what murton is batting, but he's not... patterson is patting .222 and murton .333

Clearly, the idea is that Eric Patterson will bat leadoff and help balance the lineup with another left-handed bat.
The other implication is that Kosuke Fukudome will remain in the 5th spot for now.
We'll see how it goes...

murton really got the shaft... as if we didn't treat him like crap enough... now is the time to show him off... he's hot in AAA and we can't just let a guy like him sit down there when opportunity awaits.

It's all about speed Ronny, all about speed. Murton or Murtant whichever you prefer, would be Ideal in this situation, but I also think it's because Patterson bats lefty.
