Looking back at the past two games there has been one weakness in the Washington Capitals that wasn't present at all in the regular season push to the playoffs. That is Cristobal Huet, the first two games he was given up goals that would of been an easy save for him and rebounds that he would of covered up. He's been in the playoffs before so I don't think its nerves I just think he needs a break, and why not put in the best veteran back up goalie to go in to a hostile crowd at Philadelphia. i think it makes sense Olie was having a good run towards the end of the season himself and I think Huet needs a breather. I haven't heard anything on the goaie situation going into tonight's game but I hope Kolzig gets the nod tonight.

That's not a bad idea. I like Huet (and Ollie for that matter), but he has had a problem or two in the recent past. Maybe a day of rest would not be bad. I like the fact we have someone like Kolzig as a back up, maybe it is time to use him. I give the idea 5 Stars, no mater what the Capitals think :)

Sorry...been a CAPS fan forever and love Olie, but to me this is a rediculous arguement. I was at both of the games and every goal was either an odd man rush...a couple he was blocked out by his own team, and a few screens. There were a hell of a lot of goals that were blocked that should have been in. Game 2 could have easily been 6-0. I think anyone who has blamed Huet for the last two games really needs to go back and analyze the games further. Greenie scored two goals in the first game to bring us back, but he also made crucial mistakes leading to Philly getting their goals in the first place. I really don't think anyone can honestly say at this point that one on one, Olie can beat out Huet. Remember his last start was a 5-0 routing by a team that didn't make the playoffs...and the CAPS were playing for everything at that point. I love Olie and he is one of the hearts of the CAPS, but unless Huet does something idiotic, I don't see Kolzig in the playoffs unless we have a 2 game + lead...nor do I think he should be.

Thank you! Just read the thread Caps have a weak D! I think I pretty much say it all when it comes to this stupid argument! Olie is old, yes we love him hes been our goalie for some many years, but come on, no way he is a better option than Huet right now. NO Way!

Not much more to add that already hasn't been said but,...what's up with all the odd man rushes. It seems like more than ever, it's at least 2 a period.
It seems like the Caps have a different mentality. First, they seem to be more interested in hitting people...like they have to prove they're as tough as Philly...especially OV.
Second...I think they aren't playing with the same sense of urgency as they had coming down the stretch. They've clearly had a letdown, which I believe was to be expected.
They need to find the same focus they had when trying to get into the playoffs. Maybe being down in the series will bring back the free flowing attack we saw down the stretch.
Regroup Caps...Philly's not as good as you're making them look

My two euros...
I believe the odd man rushes, passive D, colapsing pyramid, ect. are that some Flyers coaches have been watching a LOT of our game film and are running the stuff that rattled us before right back at us...with much success, as we've reverted to Glenn Hanlon form. Gabby's been pinching for months and the Flyers are counter-attacking that. It's a good gamble when it pays off, but it's ultra risky.
On the Olie, I think start U-A on a short leash. If he gets leaky early, bring on the O-man. U-A thrives on being cool, but you can practically see Scott Hartnell packing a pipe wrench in his pocket to pry his mask off when the refs aren't looking. It's getting in his head too. I believe in match-ups, and Olie has stood strong against Philly. Plus, he's 6-3 and 220 with that famous German temper, and I doubt Hartnell would have the nadz to shove him around, lest he gets a stick shoved up his arse!
Lastly, this is a series we are badly missing our beloved Captain Chris Clark. ( say, didn't you used to be Brooks Laich? ) The way we got through that pyramid clogging was to fire a blast and run AT it. Hope for a long rebound or just cause caos. We have the personell, but are almost playing too nice ( that's for you, Milan Jurcina! ). When I see us passing around, looking around, passing around... or trying to skate around the back door ( hey Semin, ya gotta team ya know? ), I know all we're going to do is waste time, and run a risk of an errent pass @ center ice getting picked and, you guessed it, another odd man rush.
WE NEED TO POUND!!

I think that the Cristobal Huet has been great during the regular season but right now the Capitals need to have a veteran to lead the team. They need to put Olaf Kolzig in for game 4.

With all the fanfare of the Caps coming back and making the playoffs, it seems that one time top goalie Olaf Kolzig has got lost in the shuffle. Granted he does have some years behind him but that is a good thing. The Capitals inexperience is showing in this round of playoffs. Washington could easily be down 3-0 in the series. Kolzig has been to a stanley cup, and in my opinion could give the Caps a much needed, experienced presence in the line-up. Also, do you think the Capitals spent to much energy just getting here that they may not have anything left?

I wouldn't mind seeing Zilla in there tonight. Huet has done a great job so far, but he has got to be tired after playing so much game seven type hockey just to get here and having a Flyer in his jersey with him for the last three games is getting to him. Kolzig has size and the temperment to police his own crease. He may take a two here or there but making a Flyer worry about his Achilles instead of getting in the goalies face may be just what the doctor ordered about now.
