How about this for an early season marquee matchup... I think this is a very important game for Santana.  He already has 2 losses and if he gets outpitched tonight he could drop to 1-3.  Not exactly the record we're looking for with his salary.  I realize one of his losees came against Smoltz where he only allowed one run, but he still got outpitched.  Last week's loss he was lite up for 3 homers.  To add even more pressure to the man, these are the type of games we got him for.  I'll be at citizens bank part tonight to watch this game... GO Mets!!!

Yeah it is still early, but to pitch against Philly is exactly why we got him....there will many more times this year that he will pitch against them....

Next 7 are on the road, lets make it a good road trip by starting tonight...Rollins isnt playing and is questionable for the remainder two games....

This won't be an easy game for Santana since he's a fly ball pitcher and Citizens Park is a glorified sand box but as you said, these are the types of games we got him for. Hopefully he's up to the task.

To be honest I'm more concerned about our bats. Even in our wins, the bats were hardly impressive. It's such a shame Delgado is a shadow of his former self, this lineup would have so much more balance & potential.

You're right our bats are a big concern.  Last night we stranded 14 runners and the other day we hit into 5 double plays in 5 consecutive innings..  2 weeks ago our bats couldnt do anything versus Smoltz...  I figure we should be 11-3 or 10-4, not 8-6.  Our bats, or lack there of, have cost us a few games.

I like Myres better then Hamels

anyways

Yea it should be a fun matchup sometmes it dont pain out

for us it really dont matta cause as jose goes so does that Mets........

Im fine wih Johan and is rec as long as his era isnt much over 3 hopefully under he is doing his job for me... if we dont score for him or blow his wins its not his fualt... However, i never really got the whole hes the best pitcher in baseball thing... I personally dont think he is but i dont even think their is one pitcher that is the best,,,

What about Peavy? Webb? Harren? Beckett?  and some others... there is a bunch of pitchers that can say im the best... Johan is one of the best... there is no clear cut best pitcher in baseball for me

Our bats are and aren't the issue.  Because we really are getting plenty of hits every game, so it means we are seeing the ball.  Its our clutch hitting that has me worried.  Every game I wince as I look at how many runners we left in scoring position.  With the number of times we have guys on second or third, we should be averaging at least 3 more runs a game.  Beltran's avg and doubles look great, but it doesn't show how many times hes gone down looking with men in scoring positions.  The 3 RBIs he has on the season would make you think the guys in front of him aren't getting on base, but this is hardly the case.

Pagan needs to go back to the 2nd hole cause he really isn't more than a table setter with his short armed swing.  Alou coming back will really help to balance the order of lefty righty, and I look forward to seeing the games were pagan is 2 and alou is 6 (I'm guess delgado 5 to break up the delgado church schneider lefty heavy bottom of the oder).

I realize one of his losees came against Smoltz where he only allowed one run, but he still got outpitched.

I disagree that Smoltz out pitched Santana.

Stat line:

Santana = 1 ER on 7 hits over 7 IP while walking 0 and strikingout 3

Smoltz = 0 ER on 2 hits over 5 IP while walking 2 and strikingout 6

Yes the Braves and Smoltz won the game, but all that means is that the Braves hitters did a better job then the Mets hitters.

In that game:

Mets 1-5 hitters 2 for 17 with 3 walks 9 LOB 7 Ks

Braves 1-5 hitters 4 for 19 with 1 walk 3 LOB 3 Ks

Smoltz and the Braves won that game because their hitter came through and the Mets didn't.
