Or at least drop it drop it down to just a couple games, I mean is it really necessary to play four boring, unwatchable games, that are basically worthless risks for your players to get injuried in?

I understand the concept of the preseason games, the players need the rep's. But since the starters don't play much, I agree they should drop a game or two. The games are tough to watch after the first couple of series.

If you don't like to watch the game then don't. But they play these games for the backups more than anybody else. You need as many game like situations for those reserve players as you can get before you start cutting them. Yes they are boring, but they serve a purpose none the less.

Like in Watergate: "Follow the money."  Everything that happens in this country is driven by financial reasons and you can find out the reason by seeing where the money flow goes.  No way is any team going to give up 2 home games that season ticket holders have to buy.  I'm not saying this is a bad thing, just reality.

Should the NBA get rid of their preseason too? Should baseball cut out the grape fruit and cactus leagues too? the point of the preseason for any league is to get the players in the mindset of the game. If you go from practice to season, the first couple of games would be horrible mistake ridden cluster-bleeps that you wouldn't want to watch.... Just mow the lawn during those games in August and strap in for September, thank the backup's and practice squad guys for helping the team out.

Yes, the preseason is absolutely necessary.  Just because you won't see a bunch of Manning-to-Harrison or Brady-to-Moss passes in the game doesn't mean it doesn't matter.  The coaching staff has a huge excess of "maybe" players and needs to essentially cut its roster in half before the start of the season.  "Meaningless" preseason games allows them to see the potential players in action, against another team.  If they work out, then you might have some solid new special teams guys or maybe even a sleeper WR, RB, etc.

I could not agree more. My father taught me two improtant things as a child. One being that you train your butt off while you are player in the offseason so that you don't have to be the one actually playing in those games. Two that you can really base and figure out nothing about a season from those games. Injury and a pain to watch, agreed.

Just think of it as four more games to bet on.

I agree. It's all about the buck anyhow. They force you to buy preseason games with the season ticket packages. I had enough and cancelled my NFL Ticket. The Lions aren't worth paying hard earned money for. Besides, ESPN will give them a little segment each week to fill some dead time before a commercial break. Boy, do I miss the old ESPN.

I suppose you also feel it is unecessary for baseball to have spring training or the NBA to have a preseason as well, right?  It is a necessary evil that these guys must get themselves in "game" condition before the season starts.  If that means going through these meaningless games then so be it.  Unfortunately, some good players get hurt but that is the nature of the beast.  I would agree that the number could be more limited though so as to hopefully see at least a half of football where the starters are in.
