Here's the things that I'll be at the spring game to see.

  • Allen Evridge:  He's going to be the starting quarterback next year.  Let's see how he's doing.
  • John Clay:  Is he going to beat out PJ for the starting spot?
  • PJ Hill:  He's finally healthy for an offseason.  Is he going to be even better?
  • Jay Valai:  Is he going to be the starting at strong safety next to Shane Carter instead of Pleasant next year?
  • Lance Smith:  Where is he going to fit in next year and how is he going to be utilized?
  • Nick Toon:  He gained 20 lbs while redshirting last year.  Is he going to grab the starting receiver spot opposite Jefferson?  The question also applies to Gilreath and Daven Jones.
  • Curt Phillips:  Where's his game at?  One year from now he'll be the frontrunner, so it'll be nice to see how he's doing now.
  • Backup cornerbacks:  They've been getting all the reps while Langford and Henry are out, and next year they'll be fighting for a starting spot.  Which one looks the best?

I'm sure I'll come up with more as the week goes on.

Some early answers to some questions you have.

Here's the things that I'll be at the spring game to see.

  • Allen Evridge:  He's going to be the starting quarterback next year.  Let's see how he's doing. I will be watching for the same thing
  • John Clay:  Is he going to beat out PJ for the starting spot?  Yes, he is, but in fall not this spring
  • PJ Hill:  He's finally healthy for an offseason.  Is he going to be even better? Doubtful, he is what he is, a load with little speed
  • Jay Valai:  Is he going to be the starting at strong safety next to Shane Carter instead of Pleasant next year? Maybe, I've heard a few other guys are in play at safety as well, should be intereesting
  • Lance Smith:  Where is he going to fit in next year and how is he going to be utilized? Probably alot like he was in the bowl game. A third down receiving back and will line up at WR out of the backfield in some "interesting' formations to throw of the defense. Might even see some two back sets with him in there this year.
  • Nick Toon:  He gained 20 lbs while redshirting last year.  Is he going to grab the starting receiver spot opposite Jefferson?  The question also applies to Gilreath and Daven Jones. I hope so, I like Nick Toon (anyone else see the humor in that name?)
  • Curt Phillips:  Where's his game at?  One year from now he'll be the frontrunner, so it'll be nice to see how he's doing now. I don't know if we'll see him, rumor has it he needs shoulder surgery and will redshirt next year. Chances are we'll see alot of Evridge, Sherer, and Stallons as those are the three the coaches are planning on having next year.
  • Backup cornerbacks:  They've been getting all the reps while Langford and Henry are out, and next year they'll be fighting for a starting spot.  Which one looks the best? This one is a mystery to me as well.

I'm sure I'll come up with more as the week goes on. How about the Dline and the new faces there, and what about the linebackers, have they progressed any from last years travesty?

I like Jay Valai, very physical. I think we need that in a safety... we didn't really have that last year. Sure, Carter can catch (Look at the Michigan game. And heck, even his brother Chris Carter, maybe you guys have heard of him?) I'm not really high on Pleasant, not sure why. He needs to prove something to me. The back up CBs... wow. I don't even really know who they are. We know that the starters will be Henry and Langford for the start of the season. I think the Linebackers will be motivated even more this year, since it's Casillas and Levy's last year. Hodge still needs to prove to me he deserves the starting job. The D-line, oh my.. Matt should be strong again this year. Chapman will be a good run stopper (if he's healthy). It looks as if they're putting Newkirk back in the middle, that should help out. Now we just need to get another strong DE..

On the depth chart it shows that Clay is bigger than Hill... PJ is 228 John is 231. I'm really excited about Clay!

Maybe, both are coming off significant knee injuries. Without the injuries I would have said they were the starters for sure, I am not so sure now.

I think Decremer will fill the role opposite matt nicely. It's the depth of the line I am very worried about.

Clay is the real deal, as mentioned by someone else, this is Ron Dayne-Carl McCullough Part 2 if you ask me

what about zach brown? everyone seems to be talking about john clay and PJ... Everyone agrees that he's damn good and could start on just about any team.  The problem is there are four running backs on the team that could do that, and he's the last of the four.  I said somewhere in another thread that Brown might even consider redshirting.  Why not?  He's going be fourth on the depth chart this year, but if he redshirts and Clay doesn't stay for all four years then he'll be the starter his senior year (and possibly junior as well).  At the very worst he'd trade a year standing on the sidelines for a year splitting the load with Clay.
