I'm not sure the Bulls have the salary cap space with the outrageous contracts of Hinrich and Hughes whose contracts combine for 23 million+/year. Nocioni was resigned for about 8,500,000/year. Deng will command about 11 million a year. Drew Gooden is on the books at 7,000,000 next year and will also want a extended deal probaly for around 8-10 million/ year ballpark. And Paxson has said that he will match all offers for Deng and Gordon. So if somebody out there offers Ben Gordon let's say 5 years 56 million, then that's another 11 million +/year the Bulls are paying. Then you have Thabo Sefolosha and Tyrus Thomas who will be free agents in a couple of years with Joakim Noah and Aaron Gray a year after them. I just don't see the Bulls having the money to maneuver as much as they might like. They'll have to wait for Hughes contract after 2009/2010 at 13,655,268 to come off the Books, but I'm sure then that money will go into trying to resign Thomas, Sefolosha, then Noah and Gray. Let's face it we are stuck with the big contracts that nobody wants and if we want to trade them, we'd have to take an equal amount of contract in return within 15% of the salary being traded. So lets say hypothetically you have Hughes at 13,000,000. Deng at 11,000,000. Gordan at 11,000,000 (or equivalent contract if a sign and trade is performed). So if the Bulls wanted to sign and trade BG, they'd have to take back a contract of atleast 10 million a year for the trade to work, thus eating away at any future cap space. (Not many teams offer expiring large contracts these days to help other teams salary cap issues). Hinrich at 10,000.00, Nocioni at 8,500,000. Gooden at 7,000,000 with extension possible since he will be a free agent after the upcoming season. There just really won't be any money leftover for the Bulls to sign anybody worthwile. Ben Gordon has hinted that he might accept a Bulls 1 year tender of 6.4 million or so and then become an unrestricted f/a and leave for sure after the upcoming season. He won't stay on the Bulls with Hughes and Sefolosha at the 2 guard for the Bulls.
