Wright is making an early push for MVP considerations... thoughts?

if you are basing it on statistics, David Wright should have won last year. nobody can argue that though it's still very early, wright is a fine choice for MVP this year as well.

Chipper Jones 6 HRs 18 RBI's .449 BA 31 hits, granted he has 8 more at bats than does Wright...but LARRY is the man so far! If you want to go to the field and consider that...Wright has 3 errors and Chipper has 1.
I am not taken anything away from Wright. He is a great ballplayer! But, right now, Chipper has the edge.

UV ... it is very nice to see a Braves fan see the Wright is an animal. But you also gotta think that Chipper gets injured a lot and he is old . By the end of the year wright will have the advantage

The dude is like fine wine, he gets better over time. I will tell you who has surprised so far this year is Pelfrey, the guy has looked great in two starts. If he keeps that up we can dump Pedro (brittle) Martinez.

David Wright has the mvp talks on lockdown. i am confident enough he will walk away with it this year, and i think he couldve won it last year as well, but this year hes definatly a lock. hes mashing the ball and hes not even "hot" yet. i also think reyes could make a run at it if he bats 300+

Well, Wright obviousely has started a milllion times better than last year, so if he can keep it consistent, he'll be in the talks. Chipper is pretty impressive, every year you wonder whether he's lost it, and he just keeps producing. That being said, i think injuries is his main concern. He hasn't played a full season since 2003 (although he did hit 500 AB's last year) and missing those games will no doubt keep him from winning any MVP awards. Also, it's pretty apparent in MLB now that the voters do take into consideration whether you're doing it for a winning team or at least a competitive one.

a lot of the time they base the mvp award on the teams success as well. if thats the case then wright probably has the advantage over chipper.

It definitely is way too early in the year to talk about MVP considerations. As much as I think Wright deserved it last year, and if he continues the pace that he is on he should win it in a landslide this year; I want to be careful saying he is the MVP already because he had an awful streak in the beginning of the season last year and I don't want to see the same thing happen at some point this year.

No let me start this by saying, I'm as big a Mets fan as anybody on this board, but there's no way Wright deserved the MVP last year, and neither did Jimmy Rollins, Holliday should have won it easily. Just look at his numbers and where he lead his team. As for this year, I think Wright has the inside track right now, only because Chipper is playing on an under 500 team, but it's so early these numbers mean nothing right now. The way Reyes has played the last week he may be in the running before long, and then he and Wright would split the vote like in 06 (Reyes, Wright, and Beltran all got votes), and neither will win it. It's difficult for a Met to win it because they play at Shea, probably why the Mets have never had an MVP, and I wouldn't count on it changing this year, and I couldn't care less if they end up in the World Series. Awards are meaningless, championships are where it's at.

I agree with skierleeub on this one. It's just too early in the season to be handing out awards. i want David to win MVP but i'm not doing that before we've played 20 games in this young season.
Let him keep posting his good numbers and I can almost guarantee that he'll be MVP this season.
BTW: Chipper Jones will be on the DL sometime in the near future.

Looks like you all will love this, after going 2-3, Chipper Jones, batting .458 left the game with the same quad problem with his right leg he had out in Colorado earlier this year.
But I ask, what does going on the DL have to do with putting up MVP award numbers. So what if he goes on the DL for a week or two this year. The guy only hit .337, 29 homers and 102 rbi's last year in 134 games and just lost the batting title on the last game of the year. I guess he lost the gold glove in the last week as well with a costly error vs Philly(9 errors in all with a .973 FPCT).
I can understand you guys here on the Met board not liking him, but facts are facts, plain and simple. He has never hit fewer than 20 home runs in a season since being a regular in 1995. He has hit over .300-9 times, all with at least 110 games played. And he went 8 straight years with at least 100 rbi's. My point is, he is a threat every year to win the MVP, just as David Wright is going to be for many years.
I also agree that it is way early in the year to pick out players to be picked for the award. My point on that is, Mark Teixeira, started real slow but if you will check out his numbers over the last few games, he is starting to warm up as will many different players(and I will say Beltran has the same ability).
I am not here to pick fights but if you consider your 3rd baseman, you have to include mine. I would take either one of them on my team!

I'd think the DL has a lot to do with it. It's not a week or two he's missing, he's missed at least 25 games a season for the last 5 years. 25 games is more than 15% of the season.
So since 2003, he's missed at LEAST 15% of a full season. That has everything to do with our discussion, because he might have been on PACE for 40 hr's 130 rbi's but instead hits say 25 hr's 105 rbi, that basically kills his chance at winning the MVP award. If you look at any of the winners, the ONLY person i can remember that won with less than 500+ AB is Bonds, and even he played a full season, he just walked an insane amount of times to limit his official "plate appearances". But aside from that 73 hr's will pretty much lock it up.

i hate wright with a passion, but he is having a great year so far. he singehandedly won several games for you this year and is the only big name hitting thus far on your team.
but with that being said you can't beat a guy for the mvp (as of today) that is hitting 100 points higher than you, has more homers and less errors, regardless of what place your team is in.
as far as chipper being injured, he played more games than reyes, jroll and about 100 other starters thus far.
can't wait for the weekend match up. we are pitching our three aces and the bats just started to heat up.
