Now that Chad Johnson is talking about holding out -- and his coach egging him on to do just that -- what are the chances of JT being traded for Ocho Cinco?
Both would rather play somewhere else, though I don't think JT would welcome the move to Cincy.
It's just that no team is going to pay what JT is worth with better than a 3rd rounder. And for that, why give him up? A guy who a year ago was hemming and hawing on retirement isn't going to fetch top dollar from a team that know he may retire in a year or two, with his skills fading shortly after that if he does stick around. That can be said for either JT or Ocho Cinco, a pair of thirtysomething guys who aren't worth a 1st or 2nd round committment for what's left in the tank.
Now, I realize that signing Jake makes trading JT less likely. Miami will need help on D, and since Jake isn't going to sell jerseys, the team is going to do its marketing department a huge disservice by letting go of 54 and 99 during the same year. However, this trade would leave the rest of the draft open for defense, save for perhaps a TE towards the end. With Jake helping out the running game and Chad helping out the passing game, Miami's offense would go from horrific to respectable. With an entire draft to get the defense right (as well as plenty of cap money to pick up some of the cap casualties in a few weeks), I think it's the best move for Miami. Right? Wrong?
