Although many people dislike Derrick Caracter, I think that he would have been a big asset to our team next year. Im guessing most UL fans have read the article on Caracters situation, Pitino basically said "you cause a lot of problems and its time for you to move on". Which I do agree that he has been a problem, but I think that he would have been useful next year. He most likely would have been a back up to Samardo Samuels, but DC being a back up vetteran could have given us 5 extra fouls and could be there when Samuels needed a rest.
So what I am wondering is, was it a good thing that he left or bad thing?

I would like to see DC back in a uniform.
We are not going to have much depth at PF or C. He could have been a good back-up for Samuels.
Now we desperately need Holloway. If Holloway does not come back,
we will have Clark, Samuels, and Jennings sharing most of the 80 minutes for those 2 positions. That's alot of minutes for the Freshmen.

I'm tempted to gently debate one of your statements, but when I look at your avatar, I can't even remember my name...

For next season it does us a little thin in the frontcourt, but in the long run I believe it could have the same impact as it did when The Godfather let Rhodes leave UK.
Samuals and Jennings will come in KNOWING they have to step up and fill that 5 spot. Their work ethic and attitude will be much different than if DC were there. Which could go either way....it could be a good thing or a bad thing. Baptism by fire.
This team will rely on the other 4 spots, as we knew it would, to carry this team. The 5 spot changes from having a Point-center like Padgett, to a more traditional 5 spot who works the post and rebounds.
I was an advocate to let DC come back, and I still wish the Godfather would have taken him back..... but I support his decision.
This team will still be strong, one that will improve as our freshmen mature throughout the season.
Good Luck DC. And if by some chance things don't work out, then perhaps the Godfather will open the door to his prodigal son.

wow!! i'm really surprised at that. obviously he's been more of a headache than i realized. ignoring anything nba-related though, pitino almost always makes the right decisions telfair notwithstanding. if i were dc i would try to transfer rather than test the nba right now. personally, as it stands right now, i would not forecast a good outcome for him if he jumps.

I have heard (from a very good source in the program) that he is coming back...that Coach is doing what coach does best...motivate people the direction he wants them to go. Remeber Coach P always talks in absolutes...Clark was absolutely gone two weeks ago "zero chance of coming back" etc. The biggest hurdle for DC is his grades according to my "insider" and if he passes he is staying all summer and will be in uniform next fall...if. The difference between DC and Rhodes is that Dc is humble now, and RR was not.

Yea, for some reason in the very back of my mind, I feel that RP will let DC some back.

Just as every UL fan probably has, I have really wavered back and forth on DC's future with the team and my personal feelings. Looking at him as a space heater physical specimen who shows flashes of offensive skills and a real low post presence, you want him back on the team. Looking at the high maintainence, bad influence on younger players and lack of POSITIVE leadership, I think it's time for Pitino to cut ties and spend his energy developing some of the new recruits we have coming in. The two deal breakers for me are DC's friendship with E5 and influencing him in a negative manner and his suspension for the Purdue game. I think that sealed his fate with Pitino that weekend when UL had to depend on DC to win that game and he didn't fulfill his contract obligations. We don't know how many chances DC has actually been given. I'm pretty sure both Ellis Myles and Walter McCarty want to improve their coaching resumes, not their babysitting resumes. Check out the over/under poll I posted on DC's suspension in light of recent developments. I voted before 1st Big East Game, apparently the correct answer will be before tomorrow.
