First of all let me say that I know that Davey Lopes isn't here because he is trying to recover from personal health problems. I wish him the best and hopefully a speedy recovery.  Now with that being said, where is the vaunted rinning game that the Phillies were to possess? They only have 10 stolen bases in the first 22 games. This team can't continue to play station-to-station baseball, waiting for the 3-run bomb. Does Shane Victorino and Jimmy Rollins mean that much to the team's success?

Is that a serious question?  Of course J-Rol and Vic mean that much to the success of their running game.  They bat 1-2 are the two fastest, and are the best at stealing bags on the team.  Having them two out would obviously hurt our running game.  The only 2 capable of stealing bags are Werth and Utley, but neither of them are burners who should be running every time they get on base.  I guess Taguchi too, but he doesn't get as much playing time as Werth and Utley right now.  As for the all around success, J-Rol has a lot to do with that too.  You don't win MVP of your league and not mean a lot to your team.  Batting almost .300 at the top of the lineup with the ability to steal bags, hit the ball anywhere in the park and a GG at your position isn't replaceable.

Taguchi has a problem with just getting on base.  And I think Taguchi is fast, but timing his run to the pitch, from what I've seen, is pretty horrible.  He got lucky the other day when he was able to get to 3rd, he was dead to rights.  Taguchi this year is going to most likely gonna be that late inning replacement for speed.

Yeh, Rollins has always been a cornerstone to this team.  Victorino also a good asset to have (could use some more hits though) with his speed and I think he's a potential GG in outfield because of all the plays he can make.  Till they get back, the Phillies will have to rely on good base hits and the long ball.  Oh, and pitching.  Brad Lidge, definately the best pickup of the offseason so far.  10 IP, 10 K, 5 oppurtunities, 5 saves....0 ERA.  You really can't get any better then that.

To stopstoopin that was a rhetorical question. I know how much Rollins and Victorino mean to the Phillies. I was wondering about the rest of the lineup and the replacements. Hell, I think I know just a little bit about the Phillies seeing as I've been following them for more than 40 years!

woooooooh there doggy...

if that is rhetorical question then what is the point of your post...
WHERE IS THE Phillies RUNNING GAME?
on DL and in Houston's centerfield

rollins, vicky , and m bourne make(made) this a totally different team...right now we have sluggers up and down the lineup 1-6 hence 10 steals in 22 games if those are the stats

no need to get snippy when people are taking the time to answer your question

Maybe we can get Howard to steal a few bases. I mean hes not really doing much with his bat...mine as well try something since were overpaying him to bat under .200 and break the strike out record every year....

good to see the team can still win with J-Roll and the Flying Hawaiian on the side lines. Lets hope Chase stays healthy and Burrell keeps his bat hot and we wont need a running game....MVP 3 years in a row in philly???

The answer to your Rollins and Victorino meaning this much?

Yes.  When it comes to setting the table and putting pressure on opposing pitchers/defense with their Speed!  Yes, They Do.
