I like the pick but the analysts - Mort, Jaws, Cris Carter - all slammed the pick. I don't know why. He is a little small and lacks elite speed, and he isn't a blocker at all. Plus, he's not very bright (6 Wonderlic score) and lied about failing a drug test at the combine. I think the kid has a ton of talent. You don't put up those numbers in the Big 10 without speed, an ability to separate, or route-running ability. They make it sound like Manningham can't do anything except go deep. Well, he's beating somebody. He makes people miss, and I think you put him in a system like ours where he will be surrounded by some high-character players who work hard like Toomer and Burress (yes, the Burress who plays for the Giants, not the guy who played at Pittsburgh). I think that will allow him to come into the year without the pressure of having to be a team's #1 and I think you can get him stronger and help him with the maturity and character issues. Kids are young, they do dumb things, and you can help with that as an organization.

I'm a Lions fan but I love Manningham. Don't listen to the stupid analyts on espn. Cris Carter said he was slow and he created no seperation. All he did was blow by the DBs. You guys that the steal of the draft. Great pick Giants!

I agree with what U 2 said, the kid is going to be great in the right situation and he can be a great slot receiver right now if he works hard. Doin way better than my sorry bucs
The Kenny Phillips pick was great has the potential to be the next Ed Reed!!!
Comin from a Michigam fan and a Bucs and Patriots fan, great job drafting.

I like the pick but I don't love it. Clearly, the man has talent. I'm not bothered so much by the pot smoking or the Wonderlic issues, but his own college coach said he should have been more productive than he was. That to me implies lack of effort. I would've loved to see Andre Caldwell there, but that's mainly because I'm a sucker for speed, especially in the later rounds.

Great pick... he was "supposed to be one of the top WR's" and then the pot issue comes up...4.45 40... the only one blazing by him is Jackson from Cali (out of the top WR picks)... yeah I think he has a good enough 40. And he is 5 foot 9... and can return I love the pick...

Great player, I'm definatly excited. I'm sure would've gone early in the first had it not been for performance at the combine. I'm sure he'll be right in the 3rd WR slot, and hell, he could give Amani or Plaxico a run for their money.

first of all mario is going to have to show a LOT to get into the Giants rotation. dont forget that this team is perfect right now - super bowl champions, so if its not broken then dont fix it. the giants lost nothing from their receiving core. plax and toomer will no doubt be the starting 1-2 barring injury. Steve Smith showed in the playoffs and super bowl that he is extremely worthy, i cant wait to see what he does with a full season. then you've got our super bowl hero in tyree and Sinorice Moss still in the wings hopefully who develops into a slot receiver.
unless manningham shows his talent in the preseason that he is worthy, he should be mentored and tutored to see what hes got. no rookie from last year jumped into the rotation right away, they were all worked in, i hope thats what happens with manningham.

I agree with Bastian (great icon, btw) and some of the others above. Mario Willingham needs someone to push him--clearly he has some impressive raw skills but a lack of motivation. At the very least, he should be able to push Moss, Tyre, Smith and Plax to up their respective games (Toomer's probably going to retire soon).
It was a so-called value pick because of when they picked him.
Also, I would've like them to pick a LB before going to a project like Manningham.

I think he's got the talent to be one of the top receivers for the Giants, and as much as I love him, I don't picture a player like Tyree making a signifigant impact through the 2008 season. Moss is a great returner, but I think with enough work in training camp (mostly on his character), Manningham will bring it early in the season.

While I shudder to call Sinorice a bust just yet, I could easily see Manningham breaking in this season as a #4 receiver. This pick reminds me a lot of last years pick of Ahmad Bradshaw, the guy is highly touted and then has a character problem and a bad combine and the Giants steal him well after he should have been off the board. Is there risk, yes. Is there upside, absolutely.

He fell in the draft because of the pot smoking. Otherwise he could have gone 1st round or early second. Hawks description of Manningham is good but he has an intangible, which is why he gets the catches and the TD's. His wonderlick score is a bit of a concern. He reminds one a bit of Sinorice Moss, size and potential. He might be a little slower than Moss but he should beat Moss out of the #4 receiver position. This could be the steal of the draft. No Anquan Boldin, no Chad Johnson, no huge salary to screw up our cap. Just a rookie with potential and a desire to make a team. Just have to watch the drug issue.
