What's up with Kevin Smith.  I had only seen him play in the bowl game, which he was lackluster in, but after watching his highlight videos I am thinking he might well be one of the top ten offensive position players in the draft.  He has absolutely wonderful vision, great balance and breakaway speed.  Downsides include he played against mediocre to sub-par team (but played Texas, E. Carolina and NC Sate).  He also doesn't have a powerful burst to get to the edge, but in between the tackles is where this guy will do a lot of damage.  This guy played both sides of the ball and played wr and rb.  If they could have, I think they would have had him make passes to himself as well.

You can go to this website and check out a compilation of some chosen RB vids, while checking out Kevin's:

Good player but does not have breakaway speed and has a lot of carries in college which translate's into injuries in NFL but in the 3rd or 4th he would be a bargin for a change of pace back .

I agree with cglass. If we can get him in the 4th it would be a good pick-up. He'd be a good role player this upcomming season. He kind of reminds me of the Giants Ahmad Bradshaw, a guy who doesn't do any one thing extreemly well, but gets the job done when called on.

I think if we go for a RB on the second day we should grab Ray Rice if he's there in the third. He's a solid back with good work ethic and good effort, and could be a good player for us for many years.

Who ever we take, I think we should release Cason and let Calhoun take over his spot as 3rd down back/KR. Cason is a servicable back-up, but Calhoun has more potential. I think he needs to stay healthy this season and show that he can help the team, or we should show him the door and give his roster spot to somone who can help us.

No argument here, I just like his physical style of play and think he would mesh really well with our "new" blend of power-martz football.

I just read that he ran a 4.43 at the combine, which is faster than I had heard. One thing's for sure; this is a very deep RB class.

Kevin Smith is excellent for the zone blocking scheme Coletto is trying to institute. With the amount of praise Coletto has given him in the media, I am sure he has a fairly good chance of becoming a Lion if we wait till the third to fill the RB need.
