You follow your board, but when a player that should not have fallen to you does, such as a running back that averages 8 yards a carry in a spread offense where he is the only weapon, you take him. And Brohm falling to 56 was a crime. This guy would have been the first QB taken in 2007. He put up great numbers with no OL and receivers that dropped a lot of balls. This is a tough kid and in a few years, when he is the next Rich Gannon, the Bears will be kicking themselves. I am just glad that the Lions were the Lions and passed on Mendenhall so the Bears do not have to face him twice a year too.

Don't get me wrong, I think that Forte will be a good starter in this league, just I think that Mendenhall will be a 1400 yard a season back. I see Pittsburgh moving back to a hardcore running game.

i'll stick to my guns.... Bears draft was a good one, but.... forte would have been a 3rd round choice & should have been. we easily could have drafted forte at #70.
ray rice went to the Ravens at the end of round 2 & then the 2 qbs.
i'll retract my views in three years... if brohm is a bust & forte is a stud & our feature back, til then... draft should have been:
1: ot williams or ot/g albert
2: qb brohm or stick with the forte pick if we would have worked a trade to still get brohm, however it really should have just been brohm at #44 & then forte at #70.
3. rb forte
but it is what it is...i am not upset with OUR draft as much as I am upset that we let the PACK grab Brohm, that sucked...but
YES, Brohm has to still prove himself, so time will tell...time will tell.

Name ONE player, highschool college or Pro who doesn't have or hasn't had an injury !!Yes but a back injury on a 300+ pound OL who has to spring up 2000 times a season does not seem like a brush it away kind of an injury. Combine that with his average strength and that spells trouble. Plus that would affect his balance and technique, his two biggest strengths.

Keep this in mind, I do really like Matt Forte, I think that he will be a fine starter in this league and a very steady contributor. I do worry a little about that workload he had though, all the hits he took as Tulane's only weapon. If he can stay healthy and become the unquestioned starter I could see him as a 1200 yard per season guy with 10 TD's or so. But I think that Mendenhall is a 1500 yard 15 TD guy.
I question the pick of Chris Williams and that is the main problem I have with this draft. And picking a different player in the first changes the plan for the second. I said that the Bears should have taken Mendenhall, so they could not very well then take Forte in the second as well. The Bears hamstrung themselves when they let Clady get picked two spots ahead of them. They should have traded into that spot.

In fact, no one can say for sure that Forte would have been available for the 3rd round. Detroit may have selected him with the next pick. The Bears obviously had him rated significantly higher that other RBs that were left at that point. The Lions worked the guy out too, and RB is a significant need for them. The point is that if the Bears are convinced that he's the Man, they need to pick him, and not find out whether or not he'll be around 26 picks later.
BTW, Forte is similar to Chris Williams in that he is more NFL ready than most rookies. He can block, which is important for backs to do in the NFL.

The big question on my mind is why do so many people have such a big hard on for drafting an unproven QB in the 2nd round, when that QB has absolutely 0 chance of helping the Bears out next year. No matter if the Bears picked Brohm, or pick another QB in the 3rd+ rounds, it would still take at minimum 2 years for the QB to be effective. I liked the Bears picks so far, they seemed geared up to winning next year.

1. Chris Williams
2. Limas Sweed
Williams was the safe pick. He will start immediately at left tackle and will move John Tait to the right side which will solve two of our problems. His pass blocking is solid and his run blocking skills will develop with time.
Forget about Brohm in the second round, his weak arm and poor pocket presence is nothing we haven't seen before from Kyle Orton (weak arm) or Rex Grossman (no pocket presence). We can't sacrifice more time in trying to develop a QB who never had the necessary skills anyway to succeed in the NFL. Trust me, he was overrated in college and never stepped it up in the biggest games. He feasted against weaker competition. Watching videos of Forte reminded me of a taller Cedric Benson. He runs very upright with average speed and goes down easily when tackled in the lower body. Another example of a player who feasted on weak competition. Sweed is a big, proven receiver from a school that has had lots of success offensively in recent years. I don't feel comfortable starting camp with Mark Bradley and Devin Hester as our starting receivers, I think that this is our weakest position on the team. Sweed would have been able to make an immediate impact and add some much needed depth to the position.

Yeah, I was also leaning more to idea of choosing WR (but Malcolm Kelly would be my pick) in 2nd round, because almost all of big receivers, that Bears really lack of, were still on board, and if they were high on Brohm they could have trade up for him in 2nd round, but I really hate the fact he was taken by the Packers, the chance of him developing into another Green Bay franchise QB really scares me.
But all in all, what can we do, draft wisely in 3rd round (OL, WR, QB, S are the possibilities out there), and hope we hit the home run with the present picks (LT and RB).
I just don't understand that Vikings move, they trade up in front of Bears in 2nd round, and then draft SS Tyrell Johnson, would Bears really draft that guy, because, in my opinion, that would be just crazy.
