Garbage Pic, he is just another todd pinkston but not as tall. He has precisely zero in common with Todd Pinkston besides the fact that they both catch the occasional pigskin. He's small and lightning fast---not an every down receiver---and his specialty is returns. He's phenomenal at breaking ankles, so teams guarding him will jam him at their own risk... sure, if you jam him, he's out of the play (because he cannot absorb contact), but if he shakes the jam or just jukes by, he's gone.

a speedy reciever who can get past defensive backs quick, not to mention great cut back ability in his return game. and we haven't had a decent return man since brian mitchell. very solid pick, we took the best player availible.

If this offense is "creative" you can prevent Jackson getting jammed at the line of scrimmage. Put him in motion, flanker screens, end arounds, line him up in the backfield, etc. If you watch PSU football, use him like Penn State uses Derrick Williams. Give him around 10 touches a game and move him around.
I love this pick because Jackson is the most dynamic receiver in this draft. He will never be a Keyshawn Johnson who will be a superb blocker downfield or be the type of player who will fight for the middle of the field. That being said, don't try to make him something he's not. Be creative and use his speed as a major asset and I think he will be a major weapon to this offense.

Jackson seems to have potential, but I'm with the others. He doesn't strike me as a true #1 receiver. I didn't appreciate seeing the 'skins get Devin Thomas and Malcom Kelly.

Well Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas aren't true #1 receivers either, if they were, they wouldn't have been passed up by the enitre NFL and drafted in the second round. THERE WERE NONE IN THIS DRAFT. At least DeSean Jackson can break some ankles. Those other guys will be 2 and 3 wide outs for the next 3 years at least. They don't scare me. At least with D-Jack, we know what we have. Another #2 who can return kicks and punts. Good enough for me.

At first I was hoping the Eagles would have taken a big receiver instead to be the go to guy on offense, because McNabb needs to win now since he is getting older.
Then I looked at the film of what a GREAT RETURNER this guy Jackson is and realized what a major area of need a good returner is for the Eagles. The great thing about a skilled returner is he can make an impact immediately on special teams and help them win games his rookie year. While a big receiver could have proven to be great but would take more time (that they don't have) to develop. With luck this guy Jackson can also develop into an offensive threat despite his size a la Steve Smith.
You can't go wrong with a guy that has speed like DeSean Jackson who could be the fastest man in the draft.
One more thing, Trevor Laws was a complete steal... I think he lead all defensive linemen in tackles and gives 110% every play and never has a bad game. If the rest of Notre Dames team wasn't so bad he would have been a first round pick. Also the Seahawks got a steal with fellow Irish player Carlson (TE) who would have been a first round pick if he came out at the same year as Quinn but din't have a QB last year.
All the Eagles need to do now is trade Lito Sheppard for a stud Linebacker or WR. I love Lito but I don't think they can afford to give him what he wants

I agree with you on Laws, he is a beast and will be a welcomed addition to the rotation with Bunkley and Patterson. Jackson has unbelievable speed and will help the return game which has indeed been disappointing for years. Chad Johnson and Anquan Boldin are both unhappy with their current situations and the rumors about Roy Williams give me hope there is a chance to deal Lito Sheppard for a big name WR. At the same time the thought of Samuel and Sheppard at the corners with Dawkins at FS and Brown at SS, which he played in college, makes me smile. That would be one of the best secondaries in the league, coupled with the speedy D-line, our D would be top 5. What to do, what to do.....
