Remember when everybody was talking about who will finish second behind the Chargers? Almost hands down most people were saying the Broncos right? Well now things are looking a lot mor competitive, who knows the Chargers could have some tight competition for the number one spot not just this year but for years to come. If the Chargers do win the div there is no telling who comes in second.
I havent seen such a great draft for a team ever. They got 3 first round players that are going to have an immediate impact. There defense was already fairly decent, now with Glenn Dorsey anchoring the middle it just got a lot better. They still need a better QB
After all the free agents that the Raiders signed now they get the most talented player in the draft Darren McFadden. Their defense will be much improved if they can

stop the run, remember the season just before last, their def was better than average. JaMarcus Russell is gonna be out there, they did improve their line slightly with a few free agents. But was that enough to help the line, what about th WR's, and JR will have lots of work to do.
Nothing much was heard from the Broncos in the draft other than that OT Ryan Clady in the first round, but they compete year in and year out. Jay Cutler has the talent, the offense has the players, they just need to do something about that defense.
What do you guys think about the future of the AFC West?

IMO, the future of AFCW still goes through San Diego Chargers. The Raiders, Chiefs & Broncos on paper look good but not proven talent yet. They got "potential good" players but still to be seen. Meanwhile, San Diego had proven talents across the board. I still think San Diego will take the West. The rest will challenge for #2 spot.
The gap between Chargers and the rest of AFCW teams still wide open until they prove otherwise. Here is my favorite quote from the DP:
The Chargers aren't just playing in a different time zone. As the Broncos make final preparations for the NFL draft on Saturday, the Chargers appear to be in a different league.

Raiders and Broncos had trouble topping the run last year (31st and 30th). What did they do to address that need? Raiders didn't draft a DT (even though Sapp has now retired) and Broncos didn't draft a DT or LB until round 6 and 7...
The Cheifs did best in the draft... however, Brodie Croyle leaves much to be desired. This team is too young at too many positions to make a push this year.

Chargers are the most complete team in the AFC West, let alone the NFL, so we should be able to take the West, but the other teams are looking good. Everyone except K.C. got a good QB. But whats funny is K.C. got the top reciever in are division. That works. But i wont be surprise if its close.

the Chargers still have a pretty comfortable gap between them and the Chiefs, Broncos, and Raiders, but pretty much all the teams had a good draft, so we will see, i mean who knows? chances are at least one of the afc wests first round picks turn out to be a bust.

It might make sense to wait until these newly acquired draft picks play at least 1 NFL game before judging their impact. I still remember how Reggie Bush was going to "redefine the running back position" and how Tim Couch and David Carr were franchise saviours.

The Chiefs trading J. Allen made it pretty clear that they're playing for the future beyond next season and possibly the 1 after, the Broncos even Shanahan couldn't give you his starting front D line and have you seen their starting LBs?....... that's even worse than their D line, Oakland IMO maybe be the most improved out of the 3, but then again that D line, 31st against the run and I see no improvements and that O line?.......... You have an unproven QB with a lot of talent but unproven being protected by that O line?
On paper right now IMO the AFC West is pretty weak.

Maybe a season or two before you can truly judge the quality of a draft pick. It takes a long time for some of the best to really make an impact.
John Elway drafted in '83 didn't win a SB till '98.
Dan Fouts drafted in '73 didn't really shine till '79 season
