I think it was a decent draft for the niners. What do you think?

I know one of the reasons many of us are not completely happy with this years draft... is that we did not draft a big name receiver.

However, We did draft Josh Morgan from Virginia Tech. I don't know much about him even though I'm a Virginia fan. Anybody else know anything about him?

Josh Morgan was probably the top receiver on the Hokies team and Eddie Royal went second round. I was surprised to see he was still available this late and then we selected him so I think it's a pretty good pick. I'm not being biased on this as a VT fan either he is a good WR especially for 6th round.

Depth on the offensive line and a pretty good D-Lineman.... Reggie Smith will turn into the best player out of this draft class..... I imagine him turning into our starting free safety by the start of 09.... I wish we could have gone after a playmaker or two but I understand why we drafted who we did.

I'm happy with Kentwan Balmer, he will be great opposite Smith, yes I know he is listed as a DT but thats for the 4-3 he will probably play as an end rush in the 3-4 which will be great to have 2 good pass rushers on the outside.  with Sopoaga filling up the middle.  That will let Patrick Willis roam a little more.  I'm also happy with Chilo, I was thinking about him the last couple of weeks and he looked better to me then allot of the top rated lineman.  However, I dont know if passing on DeSean Jackson for him is the best idea, the guy trained with the best wr ever this offseason!! he would have been perfect for the Mike Martz system, a Steve Smith type of player... extremely fast, as well as a great punt returner! but thats ok.. I can live with that.. but then things got out of hand.. Reggie Smith might be a good CB but should we have passed on guys like Early Doucet, and Steve Slaton for him?  Or a Center instead of Mike Hart or Owen Schmitt? I dont know if I like McGloughlin's style of drafting, we seemed to get allot better talent when Nolan was ahead of things.. (Vernon Davis, Manny Lawson, Patrick Willis, Joe Staley..) Hopefully Balmer will be great, and Rachal will fill in for Bass while he works through his pec injury, and perhaps even help to fill in where Larry Allen was.. but overall this draft to me was no where near expectations.. pretty dull no big named trades or anything.. maybe we can still have a shot at some of the big names, Jason Taylor, Roy Williams etc who knows we will see who gets cut soon eh?

I'm definitely not screaming A+ for the draft, but I think these decisions were well made.  I like the fact all of these guys come from great schools.  Most of them are 3 or 4 year starters.  And I think they can all contribute on the field this season.

Obviously we would all have liked to see one of the top 5 WR's drafted, but Morgan sure is fast.  He didn't get a chance to shine in the running offense of Virginia Tech.  So, I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt.

Feeling pretty good headin' into the season. Sad about David Bass though.  We really need the young guys to start producing.

Go 9ers,

Receiver in the first round?  Who was the last good receiver that started that we received in the first round?  JJ Stokes?  Let's stay away from receivers in the first round.
