Im hearing a lot of arguments about who should be the MVP, so i want everyone to share their opinion!

   Heres my opinion

Two words , Kobe Bryant - played more than half the season with a torn ligament in his hand and is playing in the playoffs with a sore knee (not to mention last night when he twisted his ankle, where a reporter went over to the laker's trainer and before she could even get there the trainer says "Do you even have to ask?") and if that wasnt amazing enough none of his stats went down after, and he was still able to dominate the game when he needed too, like when he closes out a game in the 4th quarter.

Another thing, the Lakers are one of only like what? 4 teams to beat utah at home in the last 30 home games for utah WITHOUT Pau Gasol.

Also he excels where Chris Paul cant, hes the only player with no blood running through his body, its all pure ice water, whenever its the fourth quarter and its the last shot im not thinking if we'll win, im thinking how kobe will make the shot.

PlusKobe beat chris paul and the Hornets in their final game of the season against each other for the race for the #1 seed (which kobe and the lakers won)

NUFF SAID, GO LAKERS AND GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS THIS YEAR!!!

PS. Go Hawks and 76ers! bust a rocky!

Kobe,  please!!! Come on DeLa "dork"....1st it's his PINKIE finger,  not his hand.
Is it even his shooting hand or his "guide hand"....have you never seen a floater (one handed shot in the NBA).

2nd point,  The Rockets just beat Utah at home,  and 1 game does not an MVP make.

CP3 has plenty of game changing plays to win again,  he does it scoring, passing, stealing....not just shooting.

Last game of the year big deal,  kobe was on the floor when the Lakers gave up a 30 point lead...what was kobe doing then??? Huh?

You analysis is weak....try this one.

Take points + 2X # of Assists and compare Kobe to Chris Paul and ask your self,  how does an MVP get outscored over the course of an 84 game season....and CP3 has done it with FAR LESS TALENT.

Oh yeah,  I saw kobe bleed when he got rocked by Raja Bell,  it was not ice water...WRONG AGAIN.....but I am certain with this logic you find yourself in the situation quite often.

cp3...Is the most valuable to his team..and is a better team player than Kobe EVER will be..its not the who is the best player in the league...and Paul Gasol seems to be the key ingrediant to the Lakers climb to the #1...and CP3 team on;y were one game behind the lakers and won the by far toughest division in the NBA...I guess the Hwks are better than the Bugetts abd Jazz too,,,,theyve beat the Ceticsa twicew now...so lets make Joe Johnson the MVP,,,,ypu reasoning is puke......He may be the best allaround player (Kobe) bu not the MVP..No way...That last game you's mentioned...the Hornets were down by 30 some odd points...and came back to within 1 point with sevral minutes remaining...thanks to CP3's will and desire....he's the kind of player that KOBE wishes he could be, and I admit is getting to be more of thatr type....but that dont make him MVP...Look art Steve Bash's numbers, when he won back to back MVP's,.....CP3's are better....Kobe will probly win it because of the "name: recognition,,,,,but CP# deserves by alongshot....sorry that just the PLAIN black and white truth....you cant even argue it.

Ok DumbFunk, i see you're the competitive type, i like a challenge

Its his shooting hand, he had to tape 2 of his fingers together, therefore hes not in complete freedom, hes the runner-up for the scoring title with 3 fingers and a thumb > _>

You got me on the second point, i give you props lol

Sure i know Chris Paul and get wins by passing and stealing but what happens when his team mates are cold and cant be counted on, does he pass it anyway when he should clearly be the one to take the shot? Chris Paul would just be another LeBron James :P

If you're talking about the game earlier in the season when we didnt have Pau Gasol ok

Alright i added up the APG and the PPG to make total points, and with kobe's playoff score of 33 PPG + 6 APG = 39 PPG and Chris Paul's 24 PPG + 11 APG = 35 PPG....hmmm dont think chris outscored kobe in the playoffs. As for the regular season score i only know Kobe's stats 29 PPG + 6 APG = 35 PPG.

Pfft the NBA made it look like blood on TV so people wouldnt freak out

TRY AGAIN

First of all bro lets learn some grammar lol.

OK Chris Paul is the most valuable player to the Hornets, as is kobe for the Lakers....pointless comment much? lol

Hey! kobe's averaging a respectable 6.7 assists....only 4 less than CP3 but is averaging 9 more points a game, yet again a pointless comment.

Well no duh, of course pau is a key ingredient, with Ronny Turiaf as your starting center would you win a lot of games? lol

DUDE WHATS YOUR POINT, toughest division? we won the entire conference in one of the most challenging regular seasons for the west ever.

Im just gonna stop there, my reasoning is puke? your post is puke... still Chris is a good player and i have respect for him, i just dont believe hes better than kobe

You gotta remember that the Hornets were not picked to finish anywhere near second in the conference when the year started while I was hearing people pick the Lakers to finish top 3 at least.  Bringing your team up to a level not expected counts for a lot.  Barely exceeding expectations usually does not get rewarded.  And you can't tell me that sideshow in the offseason for Kobe doesn't hurt his chances.  That summer of ranting ain't a team player.

The arguement between Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant could go back and forth and honestly neither person would be wrong.  Both had great seasons and both are deserving of the award.  If anyone says the other does not deserve the award is wrong.  With that said, I have to correct one point, then bring up 1 other point.

Since when did an assist result in a 1 point basket?  Do teams lose a point if they made a basket after an assit?  Based on those numbers it would be Kobe: 33 PPG + 6 APG = 45 points; CP3: 24 PPG + 11 APG = 46 points.

I did not take the time to verify the stats for accuracy.  But I will add that a lot of CP3s assists come from him driving to the basket and kicking it out for a wide open 3 point shot.  So, in essence the value of those assists should be a little highter.  But that's just nit picking.

As far as Kobe leading the Lakers to the #1 seed.  That was actually as a result of Pau Gasol.  The Lakers were the 9th seed in all games w/o Gasol.  The Lakers are 26-5 w/ Gasol (.839 winning %age), and 31 -20 w/o Gasol (.608 winning %age).

Please, if you are going to use this measure, at least do it accurately. These are the stats taken from the last week of the regular season:

On offense:
CP3: 21.2ppg + 11.5apg @ 2ppa = 44.2 total per game
King: 30.2 ppg + 7.3 apg @ 2ppa = 44.8 total per game
Kobe: 28.6 ppg + 5.4 apg @ 2ppa = 39.4 total per game

On defense:
Chris Paul: 2.7 steals per game but 0.0 blocks per game (when rounded) - total 2.7
LeBron: 1.8 steals per game but 1.1 blocks per game - total 2.9
Kobe: 1.9 steals per game and 0.5 blocks per game - total 2.4

Kobe clearly trails in both categories, and he also plays on a team with other very good players (imagine what CP3 or LeBron could do with Gasol and Bynum on their team). Statistically he doesn't help his team win as many matches as other players in the league do - its the Most Valuable Player award. Allowing for a slight fluctuation in minutes played, CP3 and LeBron are pretty much inseparable - I would give it to CP3 because if the Hornets make the Western Conference finals it will be on his back against far better opposition than LeBron has had to face along the way. I could understand if LeBron or CP3 got it, but there's no way Kobe Bryant deserves it this season.

By the way, KG has had an awesome season in Boston but he doesn't deserve the MVP award either. His impact has been limited by all the great play around him - the Celtics would have made the playoffs with just Pierce and Allen

The MVP race is so close, it's like the playoff seeding in the Western conference.  I definitely think it comes down to two players: Paul and Bryant.  A great case can be made for either player, but I think the winner will ultimately be Bryant.  I know that lifelong achievements shouldn't come into play for an MVP voting, but people are human and I think that will provide the final sway towards Bryant.  He's already won three championships but has yet to win a MVP award.  He's excelled in the league for a long time and is considered by many to be the best player in the league.  I think Paul will definitely win a MVP award sooner rather than later, but it's just not yet his time.  I will say that I think Paul is the more deserving of the two.  What he's done to that Hornets team is incredible.  Take him off that team and they're one of the worst in the league, but with him on they ended up with the 2nd best record in the conference.  Paul really doesn't have a flaw in his game and fills up every category in the stat sheet, leading the league in assists and steals while putting up high point totals and shooting a great percentage.  The way he sees the floor, dribbles through any defense, and completely controls the game is unreal.  He's a terrific leader who is humble and a great person off the court.  If I could have one player to build my franchise around, it wouldn't be Bryant, Lebron, or Garnett, give me CP3!  He'll definitely win a MVP during his career, maybe more than one, but not yet.  It's not his time.  This is Bryant's MVP year.
