i dont mean to put Adrain Peterson down but he played behind the best offensive line in football. On top of that, he's incredibly injury prone. Just because he didn't get hurt last year doesn't mean he isn't. so, anyone who would start their franchise with a violent RB who is injury prone isn't that smart.
You would have to go QB, Tom Brady/ Peyton Manning - it really is a toss up.
Anyone who says Adrain Peterson is either a homer or crazy!

It hurts to say, but it has to be Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. You can't be honest with yourself and choose anyone else.

I am gonna go outside the box and say Brian Westbrook. Many people are gonna say its because I am a fan of the Eagles but that isn't it at all. He is a weapon. He may be running back by a position but he can line up at reciever, in the back field, he can return punts and kicks. He is a guy that demands a double team no matter where he lines up, no safety can cover him, and linebackers get burnt up and down the field. He is a guy you can build an offense around. I would take him with my first pick and build the offensive and defensive lines next. Normally I would never pick a running back because of the fact that you can get guys undrafted that have tons of talent. Although quarterbacks are a huge part of the success of the team I also think a decent quarterback can be had cheap.

Given that a new franchise is going to have growing pains and it will take a year or two or three for the team to gel completely, I have to go with either Romo or Roethlisberger on this. Two good QBs who are young but who have experience already on winning teams.
As much as you'd like to see Brady or Manning in that line up, by the time the team is playoff ready (unless you're going to break the bank on the cap), both will be close to looking at retirement.
Eli, I'd wait and see one more year. He's just coming into his leadership role. (If you want to argue that look at the difference in his attitude prior to Shockey's injury and after).
Defensive side I'd have to go with either Bart Scott or Antonio Cromartie.

This would be a tough choice, but based on histroy. The hardest spot to fill is QB. I would say Payton Manning or Tom Brady should be the choice. Hard to say which one is really the better choice.
When Brady got better weapons his numbers shot up last year. When Mannings weapons were hurt his shot down. This shows a supporting cast makes a big difference. Just ask Dan Marino how he would have done with Joe Montana's team.

Anyone who says Adrain Peterson is either a homer or crazy!
I have to say Adrian Peterson. I'm not a homer but I may a little crazy. I got to see this guy run in college and last year with Minnesota. He is a freak! I wouldn't say he is anywhere near the status of Walter Payton or Barry Sanders yet, but he does have that kind of potential, if he stays healthy. By the way, we could say "If he stays healthy" for all of the players listed but all I know is Adrian is healthy right now and you have to take that chance, if you're trying to build.
As far as running behind the best line in football, who did Emmitt Smith run behind in Dallas during those years in the 90's and don't people consider him to be one of the greatest? That line was HUGE and were great blockers. Ed McMahon could've driven his Hoveround through those holes. Even here in Kansas City, Priest Holmes ran behind the best O-line in football and then Larry Johnson stepped right in... the majority of which will have numbers retired.
So, the question is with which player would you start a franchise. That means we are all "GM"'s here and I have read some very good names but I still have to say Adrian Peterson. The Manning/Brady argument is a safe, solid pick and I wouldn't be upset at all to have either of them. But what would happen if, and I mean only if, Manning and/or Brady get hurt. Anyone can get injured at any time, there are no guarantees and no exceptions. The game is about taking the risks and that's why I love it!

yes emmit did run behind one of the best lines ever and he was very good (im reserving great because i have my own opinion on that but you get my point). but with Adrain, if you put Ladanian Tomlinson or even Larry Johnson behind that line (i understand they both have/had very good lines themselves, not not as good) they would do the same as Adrain or better.
That being said, YES anyone can get hurt at anytime, the difference is Adrain Peterson has a history of getting hurt. Didn't he break his collarbone already? that is a recurring injury.
If your going to start your franchise with a RB, ok, but starting it with a RB that had 1 good year on a team with the best OLine and that just pounds the ball nonstop, who has a serious history of injury over a RB that has consistently done it year after year, with a good offensive line, not as good, and never had an injury, besides being banged, up is crazy.
Unless your a Vikings fan, then it makes sense.

Agreed Aquaman! You made some very good points and I'm do not disagree with you. I would take still take A.P. or L.T. as a franchise RB but it may be wiser to look at a QB that in theory would last longer. RB's do take a good pounding and have a window of 8-10 years versus 15-16 years? And this is why I'm not a real GM.
