Seems like the old Eli reared his ugly head today on campus during a meeting w/ Coach Crean and decided to throw a potted plant around the office. Cops were called, but no arrest. Eli asked for a transfer and went off while discussing it w/ Coach. In a press release, Crean stated that Eli would not be at IU next year.

Thank you again Sampson for recruiting another thug to IU! This kid was banned from HS play bc he shoved a ref during a game. He also was shot while driving around Compton, Cali.

Yes, we need bigs for next year, but the players must want to be at IU, not be there JUST for a Coach. Sure, many players GO to a school bc a particular COACH is there, but they NEED to like the SCHOOL too IMO.

Holman seems a lil unstable.   It's probably for the best that he'll be moving on.   I agree... players need to want to be here because of the school and the tradition.

Why doesn't this news suprise me or any of us?  Crean has his hands full.  Thanks for the updates, Keith.  I agree with finding players who want to play for Indiana University not just for the coach.  Coach Crean will take care of it.

I guess the headline should read, "Holman "Breaks" His Silence....Literally".

We go from Knight, a super rules follower and disciplinarian to Mike Davis, a super nice guy who was chummy with the players to Kelvin Sampson, who was super chummy w/ the players and didnt give a rats tail about following any rules or it seems ......going to class!

Knight would have never allowed the players to call the shots, skip classes, etc. I remember in '86, Daryl Thomas missed a few classes (during the bball season) and Knight put his rear end on the pine and almost booted him from the team. When he called home to complain, his momma asked him why did Coach Knight discipline him. He had to fess up and admit he cut some classes. Her response was to BACK UP THE COACH 100%! She told him it was the Coach's way and if he didnt go to class, she would yank his butt outta school, no need to Knight to do it. That is what we need now, a Coach w/ a backbone and RULES to follow WITH parent(s) that back the Coach's way, not an enabler for the player(s).

I think we have a good solid Coach in Crean who will make the players follow the RULES, go to CLASS (you are @ a University and the tuition is FREE!!! since you are on a scholly) and then, play some solid bball.

Couldn't agree with you more, Keith.  Even if you are one and done, you should be getting your butt to class.  The school is paying for you go have that class when people who are not gifted in the sports area have to pay but would love to have a free ride or a free class.

Too many college students have the mentality of professional athletes.

Crean will handle it.  I don't doubt for one minute that he will clean things up.  It just might take a little while (though I think he has done more than anyone thought in this short amount of time).

I kind of had some concerns about Holman when we first signed him.  Not too long after that there was problems with him becoming eligible academically and then the incident where he got shot.  Now just because someone gets shot, doesn't make them a bad person, it could just mean being at the wrong place at the wrong time.  He is from a rough area, but for all we know it could have had something to do with the people he hangs around.

Sampson really brought on some dandies, didn't he?  It was obvious with the phone call stuff that Sampson had little or no regard to the rules.  Now with the academics issues, it seems even worse.  It is also apparent that Sampson had little to no regard for a incoming player's character.

This just makes Crean look so much better.  He is the right guy to clean or "Crean" this program up and takes us to the promised land, eventually.

I havea feeling that IU fans are going to have a very long season in the 2008/2009 season. It is sad that so much has happend with this historic program. I am not a IU fan normally but have alays liked the program and admired their history.
