we drafted a te in th first round the Jets must of saw somthing in him her must be good we also got bubba lose baker

Even though I'm one of the biggest backers of Dustin Keller on these boards, I know that we are going the problems with Baker, but Baker serves a very impotant role for us, Bubba is biggr and satronger , but past his prime, he is mainly going to be blocking and helping Dustin improve on the tools he has, but Baker can be become a vry good weapon for us ,especially since Dustin will force defenses into devoting at least one man to covering him at all times, there will come those moments whem Baker will be left wide open, fairly deep or into the red zone, we need the variations that having these three can bring to the field. Don't count out Baker just yet, if his attitude improves and the team can settle him down then opposing teams won't know which tight end to cover, and if they commit to both then who covers our running backs, he will play a big role in creating ismatches or the threat of the mismatch. Keller won't just come in and grab 7-8 TD's this year, but what he will do is make sure that teams must account for him, his getting those over the middle tough yardage first downs will be extremely important to us.

PLR - Sounds almost like you want to run a 3 tight end set ?
Baker is a GREAT pass catching TE, we have not used him. I can remember great catches, not big drops... I am sure you will agree. The issues I have with Baker come out of his mouth. He is no different than any other modern day athlete crying about what others are making and they want thiers...
Give the guy a break. He was treated poorly as was Pete Kendel, if he only kept his mouth shut during bad times I would be more on his side.
The problem I have as a whole is these guys all sign contracts, can someone please perform up to its level and honor it. Look at Larry Fitz, he OUTPERFORMED his contract and was rewarded, he is a great ball player and never causes off field issues, I jus wish there were more guys in the league like him.
It could be worse, we could be like the NBA !!!!

using fitz is a bad example..they gave him a ton of money and strapped themselves and HAD to rework his contract...it wasn't based on his play but rather on the cap space they didn't have....
anyway i like baker and since keller looks nothing like a te, i wouldn't mind him in the slot while baker was on the line

You're right I do like Baker, and although he has never been the thrat that the upper echelon T.E.'s can be, he still plays a very important role for us, as to using the 3 T.E. set, we will at times I'm sure, but I believe when we do Keller will be used as a wide out who must be covered and Baker can become the main target, my main point is that we have more options now, it's up to Schotty to be the one to find the best ways to use them against the team we face that week, because each week we can and may change the package completely around, line up in the same sets but run a whole differant route and block differanty. I just feel that teams will start to sleep on Franks, as we use him more and more for blocking, but still get him some TD's in what may be some very easy set ups where he is completely left all alone while teams try and cover our younger receivers. But I still say getting rid of Baker would be a mistake, especailly if Bubba gets injured.

yeah but from what im hearing this kid keller is a beast he rarely drops balls and has great hands also alot of potential reminds most analysts of jason whitten and that is a great thing hes the best te in the league prolly i think will have a good rookie year

I'd like to see us keep Baker one more year while Keller develops. I say give him a decent 1-year deal then let him hit the free agent market. Baker is a skilled journeyman who's familiar with the system in place. Hopefully he hasn't worn-out his welcome.

the rook is a solid player however i think it was extremly stupidtoo draft up for him
but what you going to do the Jets like to do atleast one stupid thing every draft
and i aint bashing his talent just not smart too trade up
Buba is here too block and try to score some TDs in the redzone
baker is done as a jet id be shocked if he stays
I think last year they should have drafted a TE so the jets jumped on the most talented TE this year however honesty i would have rather waited got another pick and drafted Martin Rucker... oh well

Why release Baker, he can catch and run routes well, he can block. We should sign him to an extention and release Bubba and take the 1.6M in dead money for 2008 (if we would release him).
With Keller as our TE that can stretch with speed and can catch well plus he has many good athletic skills, and Baker can catch great and block, it's a dinamic duo with the 2 TE's.

yeah but now hes pulling a l coles if he dusnt get a contract he will cause problems for us we cant have that next year this is a make or break year for us and mangini he may get fired if he dusnt do somthing
