It was pretty much a two man race between Bryant and Paul. I definatly thought Chris Paul was the better because his team won so many games even though his surrounding cast wasn't as good as some other teams. I'm not saying players like Chandler, West, and Stojakovic are bad, but Chris Paul made them so much better. Not many people can average over 20 points and 10 assists. Chris Paul is truely special and I think he made his team better more that Kobe did and dereves the MVP. Kobe defiantly matured and improved this year, but I thought Paul was a little better.

How is Chris Paul not the MVP? Does anyone else see who else is on his team? Tyson Chandler!  Yes, I said Tyson Chandler.

Bottom line:  The Lakers without Kobe= 7 or 8 seed.  NO without Paul = worst team in NBA!

Kobe Bryant with Pau Gasol did nothing with that team the last two seasons.

Chris Paul didnt have any additions, and they took the West.

What a shame.

I agree. I think that CP3 deserved the award more than Kobe. I'm not terribly disapointed that Kobe got the award, because he had a phenominal season as well.

I'm just curious to see how good David West, Peja, and Tyson Chandler would be without Paul. I know that Chandler would average about half his points (no one would be throwing him alley-oops off pick and rolls), but I'm most curious about David West. This was really his coming out year and I would like to know how much CP3 had to do with that.

All in all, I'm fine with Kobe getting the award, but would have prefered Chris Paul to get it.

06-07 Lakers 42-40; Kobe Bryant .463 fg%, 5.4 apg, 1.4 spg
07-08 Lakers 56-25; Kobe Bryant .460 fg%, 5.4 apg, 1.9 spg
(does not included the last game)

06-07 Hornets 39-43; Chris Paul .435 fg%, 8.9 apg, 1.8 spg
07-08 Hornets 55-25; Chris Paul .485 fg%, 11.6 apg, 2.7 spg
(not including the last 2 games)

I posted this in another post before the end of the season.  Point being is that Kobe hasn't played any better this year than last...but the Lakers are a much improved team.

Paul on the other hand has vastly improved his game over last season and that has had a direct result on the performance of the Hornets.  The team is better because Paul is better...isn't that the definition of an MVP?

Not saying that Kobe didn't deserve it in the past or that Paul is better than Kobe...just that IMO this season the MVP should have gone to Paul.

Kobe and Lebron were just the sexy choices.  KG, Dwight Howard and Tim Duncan should deserve consideration, but for what a player has done for the team I still gotta say Chris Paul.  How many peopel with a straight face could have said before the season began thant the Hornets could win the West?

This is the reason I have always said that basketball needs a M.V.P. and a M.O.P. (most outstanding player) award. Kobe has been the most outstanding this year but he is not as valuable to his team as Paul is. Without Chris Paul facilitating the offense New Orleans Hornets fans would have to watch Pargo throwing up shots all game and pray that West or Chandler could get some put backs on the ones he misses. Without Kobe, Derek Fisher can still penetrate or give the ball to Pau Gasol and let him face up or back down the smaller defender. I think Kobe is deserving of the award. He is the Susan Lucci of basketball. He is the best player year in and year out but has never won it. He just isnt the MOST valuable to his team this year. Paul should have won it but you cant really be mad that they gave it to Kobe.

all the reasons people here are giving for why Chris Paul should of won the mvp could also be said for lebron.. imagine how bad the team would be without him and paul had a better supporting cast... but its still a toss-up between paul, kobe and lebron in my opinion
