Now that we have the 2008 draft out of the way, let's review recent drafts starting with 2007. These guys have played 1 season, so we have some evidence as to their ability and contributions to the Chiefs.

Rnd 1 - Dwayne Bowe (WR)

Rnd 2 - Turk McBride (DE)

Rnd 3 - Tank Tyler (DT)

Rnd 4 - Traded to Saints for Michael Bennett

Rnd 5 - Kolby Smith (RB) from Dante Hall trade

Rnd 5 - Justin Medlock (K)

Rnd 6 - Herb Taylor (T)

Rnd 7 - Michael Allan (TE)

in exception to Dwayne Bowe and to a smaller degree Kolby Smith we didnt here much from the other guys. I would have given them a B anyway but they cut medlock and that  brought the average down to a C-.

I give them a C, but I'm kind of waiting to see how Turk and Tank turn out.  If  they become starters, and play well, I would say a B+ or A-.  Sometimes you have to wait a year or two to really grade a draft.

I gave the 2007 draft a B based on the potential of these players with the possiblity of going to an A....or to a C. Dwayne Bowe should develop into one of the game's best receivers. Tank Tyler looked good to start the season then faded, so hopefully he comes in better focused and conditioned this year. Turk McBride and Herb Taylor have their opportunities to develop into players this year. As a #2, Turk really needs to succeed to save this draft class. Kolby Smith can still contribute as a backup and hopefully as a specials teams player. Michael Allen had his preseason moments and could become a player. The Michael Bennett trade is a reminder not to trade for players in desparation. It was hoped that he would be the speed compliment to LJ that we have now in Charles and just didn't work out. Losing a #4 for a later #6, #7 or whatever after 1-1/2 years is tough though. This should be the year when several of the 2007 draft members either make it (A) or break it (C).

I gave it a C. Only WR Dwayne Bowe(Off. Rookie Of The Year, If RB Adrian Peterson didn't go crazy on the NFC) had a good year. RB Kolby Smith also contributed, he was an average upgrade for our running game last year when Larry Johnson went down. Both D-Lineman Turk McBride & Tank Tyler played only few minutes on the depth chart. Tyler will play more this year so that Herm can evalute him next to Glenn Dorsey. Turk looks like a BUST cause he only played minimual minutes and it's reported already that 310 pound Alfonso Boone will take his spot at Right Defensive End. Justin Medlock was a BUST during training camp and was cut before week 3. T Herb Taylor will be on the depth chart behind Albert and Terry, he'll contribute somewhat if either one gets injured. TE Michael Allen will be evaluted also this year.

I'm not sure you can call McBride a bust because he didn't play much. He was behind two pretty decent Defensive Ends on the depth chart. I don't think Boone will work out at DE, that's a pretty big guy you're asking to be your #1 pass rusher.

I voted C, but that could change at the end of this season.  I want to see haw good tank can be playing next to Dorsey.  Its hard to completely evaluate after just one season.  Its happened several times when a player starts off his career slow and has that break out season in year two.  I'm hoping this is the case for Turk.  Herb Taylor could be the sleeper in this draft for his second season.  He's going to get his shot to step up this year, he showed some signs at the end of last year to indicate he has the ability to do that.

I think it is way to early to call Turk a bust, this year will tell alot. I definitely prefer him to Boone at DE, if he does improve. I really hope you are right on Herb Taylor. Just another addition to our O-line, which, as everybody knows, is vital. I also think our playcalling will display that the O-line wasn't quite as bad as we thought it was. I'm not saying they weren't very good, but when the opponent knows what play we are going to call 80 % of the time, it definitely doesn't help the line.
