He must have felt left out of the recruiting spotlight in Wisconsin because of Vander Blue's commitment earlier this week, because Evan Anderson has committed to Wisconsin as first reported by Mark Miller. Anderson is a 5-star center out of Eau Claire North HS. Here's his Recruiting Planet profile. You can get to his Scout and Rivals profiles from there.
Anderson fills the need for a big man in the 2010 class, and even if there wasn't a need it would have been hard not to go after the best player in Wisconsin in that class, not to mention a top 5 to 10 player nationally. Anderson and Blue's commitments fill the scholarships opened for 2010 by the the graduation of Trevon Hughes and Jason Bohannon.
So, Wisconsin doesn't recruit top talent, huh?

I think people get the wrong impression about UW not recruiting top talent. Every team recruits top talent the hard part is getting them to your school. It had been hard for UW to get out of state kids to UW for a number of reasons - distance and weather being two of them. Now that the state in general is developing more talent you will see more talented kids come to UW.
Now that UW has a winning program, you will see more HS coaches preparing their kids for Bo's system. It all works hand in hand. It's just a good time to be a basketball player and fan in Wisconsin.

I was talking to my friend who's a Buckeye fan and he was making fun of me saying Wisconsin can't recruit 5 star talent, well he'll be eating some crow tonight.

I heard the news over the weekend. This is great news (and kiomaci apparently I was wrong about him putting off his decision, not surprising by any means and the rumor I heard was not very credible, can't believe everything you hear). That said what are your thoughts on whether or not this has any influence on Jamil Wilson's recruitment?

kaara, I think it's a little early to already be hitting the kool-aid.
I don't think this will have any influence on Wilson's decision. The last rumor I heard had MSU and Marquette as the frontrunners, and it's still almost a year until Wilson commits anywhere. There's way too much that could and will happen between now and then for this to have any major effect.

I really hope Anderson develops his game. Hes only averaging 8pts and 6rebs a game. To be 6'11'' you should be putting together better stats than that especially in Wisconsin. Granted he will be a junior but ive seen him play AAU ball many times and he can barely dunk the ball. He gets dunked on frequently and he is only a short range/back to the basket type of player. He needs to toughen up a lot and get way more aggressive down low for me to feel comfortable with his commitment. I really like his upside and now its just up to him to determine if he wants to be a great center or a poor mans Brian Butch. Dont get me wrong i think that snagging him is a very good thing, i just dont think that RIGHT NOW he is a top 5 nationally ranked recruit.

Your comparing apples and oranges I suspect. He IS a top 5 nationally ranked recruit for his CLASS. Compare him to other sophmore centers and he is the best of the lot, further overall his play in AAU ball is uaully what gets you ranked, hwo you play for your high school has less to do with it than what you do on the AAU curcuit because there you are playing against all kimds of kids from all over the place. The top 5 ranking is legit, as his is size (which you can't teach by the way). So yes RIGHT NOW he is a top 5 national ranked recruit for his CLASS and completely deserves it.
As for a poor man's Brian Butch, that comparison is wrong on so many levels. first of all Butch was 185 lbs when he graduated high school and when he put on weight in college he was never comfortable with his game again because of that weight gain. Evan Anderson already weighs 250 lbs and he's only a sophomore in high school, by the time he gets to college he'll probably weigh between 255 and 270 and will be really put together and will vbe very comfortable at that weight, he'll have no need to gain any weight so his game won;t change. Further Butch was a perimeter player with center height who tried to change himself into a center and never did so completely, whereas Anderson is a back to the basket center. Two completely different players. I'd say this kid is more comparable to Stiemsma than Butch if you insist on making the comparisons

All i said is that its up to him if he wants to be a great player or not. Like i said i like his upside a lot but to have the size and physical skills he has he has to do a lot more than average the numbers he has to impress me. You're completely right karra AAU is what gets you looks by scouts and seeing him play hasnt made me that high on him. Sometimes he looks like Sean Bradley (getting dunked on and schooled) and sometimes he looks like a good center who is a top 5 prospect. Now what im saying is that if he wants he can be that good center all the time but its completely up to him and that means he has to get more aggressive and work on his defensive and athletic skills. I suggest that you make an effort to get to one of his AAU games/tournaments and see for yourself how he plays, i guarantee that he will not look like a top 5 prospect. His upside makes him a top 5 prospect, a ton of coaches and scouts will tell you the very same thing.

I didn't say he couldn't improve, of course he can. I also didn't say he is ready for college basketball yet, of course he isn't. I also didn't say he was the best player on the court, he's not, but I also take into consideration he is playing against stronger more experienced junior and senior players most of the time too when he is playing. I've seen him play and when he is out there you see the areas that need improvement, there is no denying that, and of course lots of highly touted players don't live up to their hype, but I also see the skill that is developing. I was merely pointing out the fact that when I extract the older players and compare him against his sophomore peers I see him as a top 10 talent for his class, note that ALL of those sophomores have room to improve in alot of areas and Evan Anderson is no different. You put up stats of 8 and 6, I thought I read his averages were 10 and 8 this past season, I'm too lazy to verify right now though.
