I know this would have been an easy poll, but ehh I don't like them. Please post who and most importantly why they are going to be a bust.

As for my pick, I say Darren McFadden, i really believe that the success of Adrian Peterson last year improved his draft stock way high. I also believe that he was an outstanding college player, but just won't quite work out. Now I also believe that his "off the field issues" are just stupid, cause is immediate family is like 70 members deep, and the bar fights, who hasn't been in a bar fight or two?

On to his playing style:
1) He runs too upright, needs to lower the pads. It was told to me a long time ago that running backs need to run like they are falling down (hehe down hill??)
2) The SEC is fast, but doesn't have great tacklers, he was easily avoiding a lot of guys, very similar to Reggie Bush's style.
3) Leg strength. Most of us who work out on a regular basis (not just for size, but for overall strength) know that the bench press is a poor indicator of strength. Cleans and squats are where its at. Prime example Maurice Jones-Drew, or Marion Barber.
4)He went to the Raiders, with last years bust JaMarcus Russell (yeah its early but I think that people were too impressed with him being able to throw 60 yards sitting on his butt)

Please feel free to rebute my statements, but hey we all could be wrong and someone like, Felix Jones (just in that Arkansas mood) could be the best player in this draft.

I am calling it right now.

Jake Long

His draft status was inflated because of what Joe Thomas did for our offense.  However, Joe Thomas was a solid left tackle on a line that Savage has been upgrading ever since he got here.  Jake Long is no Joe Thomas.  He won't be a Tony Mandrich style bust.  Just not worthy of a #1

geno,

Safe bet would be to pick a quarterback to be the biggest bust.  From 1999 to 2005, the following quarterbacks have been drafted in the first round:

That's 20 quarterback taken in the last six years.  Excluding Aaron Rogers (because little is known about him and his ability), that's 19 quarterbacks.  Five of which are out of the game.  Nine of who could be considered "bad" quarterbacks (Culpepper, Pennington, Carr, Harrington, Ramsey, Leftwich, Boller, Grossman, Losman, Smith).  Only four of them (McNabb, Manning, Rivers, and Rothelisberger) can be considered All-Pro and one (Palmer) is hard to peg.  In my opinion, he's very average and overrated, while some feel he's the third-best quarterback in the league.

As for percentages:

  • 10% chance of winning a Superbowl
  • 15% chance of appearing in a Superbowl
  • 25% chance of being out of the NFL
  • 30% chance of being voted to a Pro Bowl
  • 45% chance of being a "bad" quarterback

But I'm going to leave that one to the statistics and agree 100% with you on Jake Long.  Mike Mayock (whom I respect more than any other draft analyst) was talking about Long before the Combine... discussing just technique alone.  He said how the "apt comparison" was to Joe Thomas--since he was a recently high-drafted rookie from a Big 10 school.  Mayock's comment was "Jake Long has good feet, Joe Thomas has great feet".  Long will be good, but he is weak against speed rush (something he didn't face a lot of in college) and is more suited for the right side of the line.

Like you said, no Mandrich-level bust, but he shouldn't have made it into the Top 10 and will probably never make a Pro Bowl in his career, at least as long as he's with the Dolphins.

I have to pick Jake Long right now. I don't think he is a #1 overall type player and that will be the reason he busts quickly. LOL. No pun intended. Also I do think they looked at what we got in Joe Thomas but as good as Joe is we had a deserving should have been all-pro gaurd right next to him in Eric Steinbach. That was huge! Miami has no one there of the sorts to help groom Long. He may be good but as far as looking back and saying we made the best choice for our #1 overall pick in the draft I can't see it.

Flacco... The guy Baltimore took. With or without him, that offense is absolutely horrid, and I think Troy Smith would have a chance to be a good quarterback with the right settings. But I don't think any QB could succeed if they play the way they did last year. Tim Couch probably would've been at least decent had he not been where he was, and I think it'll be the same way for Baltimore and Flacco.

Lantlas...Flacco doesn't really qualify for the "biggest bust" question for several reasons...he is coming from a division I-AA school, where he didn't face big school talent, so we have no idea what a good secondary will do to him...his lack of big game experience will hurt him...so to sum up that point, the Ravens took a gamble on him...Flacco was also picked 18th overall, not the high pick with all the expectations that turns out to be a big let down...no, if Flacco sucks, it w
