This is quite disapointing. I was hoping to see him play at least into his 50's. Franco was a machine. He's 49 and he still looks like he is in better shape than most of the players in the majors. Oh well, he had a good career.
too bad.He was a real class player and a good roll model for young players being he was a player who kept in top from all of his career. Not a hall of famer but a player to be remembered. Also that crazy batting stance he used!Happy retirement Julio!
Yep - I always liked cheering for Franco, because as long as he was playing (we're the same age), I could always hope to get the call from a team and play. Now my major league aspirations are buried :)
Now I guess I have to retire as well - darn!
Then again, how cool would it be to be able to retire at 50?
It's always been hard to root against this guy, even for me when he played with the Braves. Hopefully the Mets will sign him on as a hitting coach, strength and conditioning... something. Seems like he's the kinda guy you want in your clubhouse.
Why is this disappointing? Instead of highlighting what he didn't do (play into his 50's) why don't you emphasize the fact that he has played professional baseball longer than anybody in the history of the game. I was also amazed to see the titles of the other threads of this article: 'So Close', 'Disappointing'. Try to be a little more positive.
Kind of surprised the Giants or Padres haven't called him yet. He's old enough... Oh well, fun to watch him do even as well as he did against guys half his age the past few years.
IUFOREVER:...PERFECTLY SAID BUT AS TODAY'S SOCIETY LOVES TO DO, WE LOOK TO FEED INTO THE NEGATIVITY......AS SOMEONE WANTED TO BLAST CBS SPORTS FOR A HEAD-LINE STATING ...EX-BRAVE..........PLEASE GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!! AND AS STATED THAT MAYBE HE CAN COACH IN MET'S ORGANIZATION, CRIPES IF THEY DONT GET IT TOGETHER BY THE BREAK HE JUST MIGHT TAKE WILLIE RANDOLPHS' JOB...........
