If San Diego had no fired Marty Schottenhimer, they would have beaten the Patriots and possibly won the Super Bowl.
He was coach of the year in the 2004 season.
What do you think?

I think you're high! I think we beat you (Patriots) in 2006 without Marty. I think we lose to Tennessee and/or Indy in 2007 with Marty. The guy is a proven loser in the playoffs. I think we beat you in 2007 with a healthy LT/Gates/Rivers. Not Norv's fault... just a lucky break for you guys... again.

Absolutely. The bottom line is what matters and we finally got over the hump last year with Turner at the helm and won a couple of playoff games. The team actually started peaking at the end of the year and it carried into the playoffs even with all the injuries.
This year we'll have fewer distractions with the coaching staff and every starter that we wanted back. Hopefully, all the off season injuries will be fully healed and we can count on a lot more help from the youngsters.
Our defense is going to be better because of the continued upgrade in the secondary and at linebacker. I really see big things ahead for Waters, Weddle and Cromartie.
Our offense should be better as we have a full year of Chambers, an improving Jackson, Parker returning from injury to push Davis and an emerging star in Nanae. Rivers should carry over the confidence he displayed at the end of the season into this year and our offensive line is all intact and all at the peak age.
This is coupled with a weak schedule and I really see us getting home field or at least a bye in the first round.

I would love the Chargers to be undefeated going into the Patriots game. I believe that will be the game to decide home field advantage. Both teams have incredibly soft schedules compared to the Steelers for example. One thing that does bother me is the Merriman issue will come into play. I know several sources who have confirmed the rumor. Time for the Chargers to have a hard line stance with this once again rearing its ugly head.

Charged4Life,
"Several sources"? Is this for real or is this another example of rumors picking up steam until they suddenly sound legitimate? Kind of like Obama taking oath with his hand on the Quran. Didn't happen but sure got a lot of play and lots of people believed it to be true.

The Patriots beat the Chargers 2 times last year. It was because of poor coaching. The San Diego had a better offense, and defense, and they picked off Tom Brady one time. A good coach would have won that game. There is one of us who is high and it is clearly you. The San Diego Chargers should have won that game in 2006 and won the Super Bowl. It was a great coaching effort in 2006. The players choked a lot. I believe that it was a bad idea to fire Marty

A lot of us agreed with that at the beginning of the season. Norv did a good job in the end, he really did - so most nay sayers came over to his side.
As for what would Marty have done? Hard to say - different style of preparation. In 2006, the players blew the game against the Patriots. In 2007, all our biggest weapons were injuried, including Rivers who played through it all. If we had them, we would likely have converted 2 or 3 field goals into Touchdowns, if not all 4, and changed the outcome of the game. I don't believe coaching lost that in the slightest - on the biggest stage, the players ultimately made the difference. 3 hobbled pro-bowlers is not a good way to win.

Correction...The Pats beat two different Chargers teams last year. We all know the Chargers in week 2 were a far different team than in the AFC Championship game. Despite injuries to two players, that are the best at their positions in the NFL and a QB who couldnt pass a DUI field test with his two bad wheels, the coaching staff had them in position in the second half to head to the Super Bowl. The poor coaching (as you call it) had them marching up and down the field in the first half but couldnt punch it in the endzone.Without L.T. , who we all know has a nose for the endzone, and a healthy Gates who as well is a monster inside the redzone but far less effective with the injury gave them very limited options as the field became that much smaller inside the 20.....instead of prying in our coaching staff one should look at the Pats staff who were out coached in the AFC Championship game and the Super Bowl. Without the best RB in football ,an injured hurt Gates and Rivers
