i just finished reading a post by jelaniz about the caps soon to be free agents and what not. here is the list...

Unrestricted:

Sergei Fedorov, Matt Bradley, Matt Cooke, Quintin Laing, Olaf Kolzig & Cristobal Huet

Restricted:

Eric Fehr, Brooks Laich, Boyd Gordon, Mike Green, Steve Eminger & Shaone Morrisonn.

now i would love to see the caps resign federov jus as the rest of you jus hope hes not asking for too much. bradley i do believe is getting up in age but all of our restricted free agents are young and solid players. it would be stupid to get rid of fehr and laich as well as eminger and morrison who helped tremendously on def. Also gotta resign huet, he played pretty well in the playoffs and i mean kolzig is old but should die a cap. what about other soon to be free agents??? anybody know of some smart signings the caps could be going after???

Huet and Cooke are necessary, and Bradley wouldn't be too bad to keep either.  I like Federov, but he old, and Kolzig, I hate to see him go, but I don't think we can afford to keep him as a third goaltender because Brent Johnson may be better as of now.
The Caps should do everything in their power to retain Fehr, Laich, Green and Morrisonn also.  Unfortunately for us, Ovechkin has that ridiculous contract that eats up a good amount of cap space, so free agent spending will probably be at a low.

Anyway, AOL Ted wants to win and he'll go to great lengths to keep the right guys.  Should be an interesting off season in D.C.

So who here in CapWorld is having fun watch the 2 best players in the world (we all know that's Crosby & Malkin) tear up the playoffs while your precious, so-called MVP sits at home??

Ciao!!!

I got no beef with Crosby or Malkin. I think it's great that they are roughing up the Rangers. You're the one who is coming onto our boards and ripping on a guy who carried the Caps on his back while scoring the most goals in a single season in over a decade.

So who here is the one with a problem? The guy who is upset his favorite team is out of contention yet still wants to see good hockey? Or, the guy who so creatively named his profile after a guy that he thinks is over rated? If you think Ovechkin is so bad, why do you need to validate yourself and the Penguins by coming to take shots at him over a week after the Caps were eliminated? Shouldn't you be worrying about the Rangers and/or Flyers?

Once again a guy who has only put on a jock for his boyfriends pleasure talking trash on another teams board. It's the 1st of the month so go cash your welfare check, buy some lotto tickets and stop using the librarys computer to post crap. I'm sure there is some kid in PITTSburg actually trying to use it to learn something.

Hey Caps fans, you guys know this guy's a moron! As a Flyers fan, I would love to have Ovechkin wearing the O & B! I don't know your team's cap situation, but your team should be even better next season. I'd like to thank the Caps for our 1st round series, I think it taught both teams alot about themselves and wish you guys the best next season!
Until we meet in the playoffs again, that is, then all bets are off!

I AGREE......I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD KEEP HUET AND HAVE JOHNSON AS THE BACK-UP.  Brent Johnson HAS PLAYED WELL WHEN GIVEN THE CHANCE AND OLIE IS ON HIS WAY OUT ANYWAY, I DON'T THINK HE LIKED HOW HE WAS TERATED BY MANAGEMENT AT THE END OF THE SEASON AND THE PLAY OFFS.

Guys, seriously, I get the sense that I am the only fan out there who thinks Huet played like crap in the postseason.  We were down 2-3 goals each game (except for 1!) - how many goals did he give up on the first shot of the game or period?

He played well in the second part of the playoffs?  I mean has anyone watched those games?  The only reason why Huet didn't give up 5 goals a game, is because Caps started to apply constant pressure in the Flyers zone, rather then skating backwards.

Huet was terrible, IMHO.  But I think he played very well during the final stretch of the season, and as we have no better option for the time being (unless San Jose wants to get rid of Nabokov?) I agree that he should be resigned.

I agree that Huet had a few shaky stretches in the playoffs, but you definitely can't put the blame for losing the series on him.  Philly controlled the series, dominating center ice and puck posession time and kept consistent pressure in the attack zone.  Philly looked like the smoother, more composed team for the majority of the series and as a result had much more pressure and higher shot totals by a large margin.  Huet made some spectacular saves and did everything that could be asked of him.

That being said, the guys we MUST resign are Huet and Green.  After those two are taken care of I'd like to get Morrisson, Cooke, Laich, Bradley and Gordon as well in no particular order (Maybe Emminger too, maybe).  It would definitely be nice to have Olie and Feds back too but more from a sentimental point of view, they are a couple of my all time favorite players but from a standpoint of resigning the guys who will be most important to winning in short and long term I see them as being some of the more expendable guys unfortunately.
