Dan Rooney, being the class guy that he is, has already said that taping did not affect the outcome of the game. While he might not have had all the evidence, I'll follow his lead and not complain about a lost opportunity that the Steelers can't get back. It's over and we've moved on -- winning Super Bowl #5 along the way.
Still, the degree of cheating by Bellichek and company is pretty brazen. In a league where the margin of victory is so small that "on any given Sunday" any team can win, having an edge like the defensive calls of your opponent could easily be the difference between 8-8 (no playoffs) and 13-3 (home field throughout).
If the Walsh tapes cover games going back further than Bellichek has admitted, I hope Roger Goodell hands out some more discipline, like a year-long suspension. Cheating, which affects the game itself, is a far worse problem for the integrity of the game than the character issues of some players (though that also needs to be cleaned up). If you don't have an honest competition, you might as well be watching professional wrestling.
