Wow, this coming from a Steelers fan. Hey, weren't all the steelers players on roids during those championships they won during the 70's? Hypocrite.

I don't consider taping signals cheating because you can easily sit there and record them by hand it just isn't conveniant. I like the fact that opposing teams don't change up their signals it made Belichick look like a genius and he must be to know that other coaches are idiots. More power to the Pats for there effort on and off the field. Thanks to Matt Walsh also for looking like an Idiot and bringing forth info that everyone already knew therefore proving that Belichick was telling the truth.

(The NFL Constitution and Bylaws stipulate that) "...any communications or information-gathering equipment, other than Polaroid-type cameras or field telephones, shall be prohibited...that might aid a team during the playing of a game."
It might be helpful to change that from "a game" to "any game" and that would basically end any discussion on the rules.

DawnieBrat
Ignore them or swallow real hard and take my lumps? I can't do both.
The hateful posters will be on the Patriots page. And there is certainly no shortage of them on the NFL page.
Read them if you must. Some are funny in their stupidity. Just don't reply. If every Patriots fan excercises restraint and refuses to reply the childish haters will evaporate out of inactivity...Make a pact among yourselves or something?
The rule that you put in the quote box seems fairly clear to me. I'm no English Lit. major, but anything other than polaroid type cameras, or field telephons seems to be concise and not confusing at all.
The bold typeface line about that might aid during the playing of a game. Are you implying that that phrase superceeds the prior verbage in the rule? If that was what was confusing to Bilichick, shame on him.
His integrity has been compromised, and for most fans, he's going to have the unfortunate label that comes along when ones integrity is compromised. It's going to be very difficult for most fans to believe he wasn't planning to, or in fact using the filming for an advantage. The NFL agreed, and fined him and the Patriots.
When it comes to compromised integrity...
Ask Bill (depends on what the definition of is, is) Clinton
Good luck Pats fans

You Pats fans are #1 - at making excuses.
Also - regarding the "Nothing is known that wasn't known." Really? They taped Miami's offensive signals, as well. This morning's NY Post, page 144 will explain it all for you. I mean, come on. You had to tape Miami? Miami?
One thing that's for sure is that Steelers fans aren't "just bitter" about losing that AFC Championship game. Sure, we wanted to win. But above all else, Steelers fans know the game of football. While New Englanders are raised to play soccer, tennis, and other girls / country club sports, Pittsburghers grow up playing football. I bet the average 12 year old from Pittsburgh knows more about football than the average guy that calls himself a Pats fan.
The Pats are a great team. Everyone knows that. The POINT - if you guys can get it through your soccer-playing brains, is that it's a shame to tarnish that with cheating. Who knows what would have happened otherwise?
Anyway, we have 5 Lombardi trophies. Call me when you guys hit 6 and maybe Steelers fans might have a reason to be jealous of Pretty Boy Brady and his cheater of a coach.

Yes, jammer, I agree with you. It is time we put all of this behind us. It's bad for the league and bad for us (the fans) if we continue to drag this out.
But at the same time, I can't help but laugh at the subpar intelligence level of some of these Patriots fans. It all sounds so much like: "I didn't inhale" or "I didn't have sex with that woman."
I personally choose to look at the big picture and examine the trends. The way I see this, we have 3 time periods here:
- Before cheating
- During cheating
- After cheating
Prior to Belichick's conversion to the "anything goes, as long as we win" philosophy, he was 41-55 and 1-1 in the playoffs (5 years in Cleveland and one year in New England).
During his cheating days (2001 through 2006), he went 70-26 and 12-2 in the playoffs with 3 credited Super Bowl victories.
Now we have one year after Belichick stopped cheating (we'll give him the benefit of the doubt here). With arguably the most talented professional football team that ever existed, he went 16-0 and 2-1 in the playoffs, losing in the Super Bowl to a team that many believed didn't even belong in the same league with the Patriots. Now, Tom Coughlin is a pretty good coach, but he isn't a genius. And if you're outcoached by him, what does that make you? (HINT: At best, less than a genius.)
Now we don't know what happens from here on out. We'll let history be the final judge. If Belichick is as good as New Englanders believe he is, then he will pick right back up and continue winning division and conference championships, with an occasional Super Bowl victory as well (since the cheating didn't really help them anyhow, right?). On the other hand, if the cheating was everything, well, you know what that means. (I'm taking the UNDER on this one.)
Bottom line -- Belichick broke the rules, got caught, and paid the penalty (a small one, in my opinion). If it was beneficial to his team, then all 3 Super Bowls are tainted. If not, then Belichick was very foolish to risk that much without any gain. And if he truly didn't know it was against the rules, then he is a genuine idiot.
Whatever the case and whatever happens in the future, I, for one, refuse to listen to any more of these Clintonesque statements coming from New Englanders.
