I agree. Loaiza is not steady, Penny just showed his weakness, Lowe is on-again and off-again, Kuroda is hit-and-miss. I think Penny will get his act together, so I'm not bothered by a bad outing against the Mets, but I also don't think that we can count on Jason Schmidt. If Schmidt comes back and is effective, that's gravy. But right now we need to be thinking about the long season. My only concern is that the Dodgers not rush Clayton Kershaw to the show. They have always developed players wisely, so I have a lot of trust in the people who are developing the minor league talent. I know that players can make the jump from Double-A to the majors. After all, Sandy Koufax never pitched an inning in the minors, but there was only one Sandy Koufax.<style id="jajah" type="text/css"> span.jajahWrapper { font-size:1em; color:#B11196; text-decoration:underline; } a.jajahLink { color:#000000; text-decoration:none; } span.jajahInLink:hover { background-color:#B11196; }</style>

I, myself, keep going back and forth over Kershaw being in the majors or staying in the minors. On one hand, if he pitches like he was in spring training, how could you not want someone like that in your rotation? Could definitely solidify the rotation. On the other, if (God forbid) he starts getting hammered...how would that affect his confidence. He appears to be mature enough to handle some rough outings perhaps, but you never know until it happens. Another on the negative is if they put him in the rotation now, how effective will he be near the end of the season when he, undoubtably, gets tired from pitching so many innings? I think that unless the 5th spot goes into a complete tailspin (per last season), he should be fine down in the minors until around July or so when he can be brought up fresh to help with the playoff push.

I say keep Kershaw down for a bit longer. Why bring him up now? Sure the #5 sucks, but Chan Ho Park has done well. Give him a shot. Not because he is better than Kershaw....but because I would rather see Kershaw come up in June or July and go straight into the rotation instead of the bullpen, and at the same time EFFECTIVELY maturing and protecting Kershaw's arm.
And what does James McDonald have to do to get a shot?
If the Dodgers are serious, then come June/July we need to cut our losses with Loiaza and Proctor and bring up Kershaw and McDonald to take their place.
And cut Sweeney, make Nomar the bat off the bench with DY, and have LaRoche play. ( I like Dewitt and am becoming more a fan of his, but I still think the better option is going to be LaRoche...offensivley and defensivley.)
But this is just my opinion......so if you dont get it, dont get mad.......LOL sorry DP and DTown....its hilarious when you two go at it.

He is ready. He is ready. He is ready. Oh yeah we also need him. We need him. We need him.
Real prospects play in double A not triple A. So I don't get that point. Whats the difference between playing in the majors and the minors. He will start and dominate the Angels can't wait.

I can't be adamantly opposed to bringing Kershaw up any longer. Faced with the inconsistent-to-downright-bad starts the team is getting, the Dodgers really don't have the luxury of dangling his arrival any longer. Now it's best they bring him up, monitor his innings and pitch count, like everybody else will be doing.

Exactly Chris, you never know until it happens, if he struggles in his first three starts you send him down ( like Bailey with Cinci) allow to regain his confidence.
Confidence is the biggest factor in a ball players mind set imo, it's not easy when you consider that the greatest hitters are unsuccessful 6 out of 10 times, good hitters 7 out of 10 times and borderline mlp players 7.5 times out of ten.

Chris all MLB pitchers go through a tired arm period during the season, what makes the great truly great is how they perform during this period

Maybe there has only been one Sandy Koufax because nobody has been given the chance to replicate the feat.
Have trong respect for what most have been saying vis-a-vis Kershaw, but the inverse could be argued as well, we would have to ask Kershaw whether he believes he should be pitching at the major league level or not.
Confidence can be shattered by lack of opportunity as well...
Your thoughts?
