I'm obviously still perturbed at the pitch call by Varitek where a Mike Lamb who at the time was hitting only .207, got a splitter instead of Papelbon's signature punch out pitch fastball
Why????????? Why give a hitter better odds at beating you? Why not throw the ball at 97 mph and get beat by your best?
Was it a full count? I'm forgetful of it, not that it matters now or then?

Did the Lamb-wagon make it happen?

perhaps tek felt that lamb was struggling so bad that he was hoping and praying and looking fastball. dunno for sure but 2 of the last 3 games have been brutal to watch. i don't care what julio knoblach is batting, i would have lowry in there. the kid can play. lugo makes that little league type play last night perhaps we don't even need pap in the game.

Who cares bucky? Paps blew two saves. It happens. He is a great closer, but he was off yesterday. He isn't going to be lights out everytime.

He was probably figuring that Lamb would be sitting on the fastball. Then again, Pap has the kind of stuff where it shouldn't matter whether the hitter is looking for it or not - it's still good enough to blow by him. Sometimes these guys over think things. Then again, if the slider was down enough, and Lamb waived over the top of it while thinking fastball, everyone would be saying that the pitch call was great. I'd give Tek a pass because, overall, he calls a great game.

Not for nothing, but I haven't seen the 97-98 MPH fastball much from Papelbon this seaon. One game in late April is all I can remember.
Saw another alarming stat. The last 23 hitters he's faced, he's struck out only 1.
Makes me wonder if there's more going on here.
