I say sign him. Can he really hurt the team, I doubt it. Start him with a minor league contract to see what hes got and then bring him to the big leagues. He has to be better than Igawa.

Wells' career is done! He pitched in 2 pitcher parks last year and racked up a 5.43 ERA! Batters hit .316 against him, and he only reached the 7th inning three times last season out of 29 starts. How is that any better than what Hughes or Kennedy did? I would rather see our young guys take their bumps than an old guy get overpaid to get beat up.

if you sign David Wells to a minor league contract and make him "work his way" to the major leagues, he wouldn't make it past AA.  he wasn't in the best of shape to begin with, and something tells me he hasn't been going out of his way to stay in shape for this season.  he's at best a 5-inning pitcher, way over the hill, and in two of the best pitchers parks in baseball, he gave up 22 HR, plus 201 hits in 157 innings.  also, that was in the very weak hitting NL west.  like to see what he'd do in the AL east?  well i would, only because i would sincerely enjoy watching him have a laughably bad season.  he would be worse than hughes or kennedy, and even though it's like sacrilege to say so, maybe even igawa.

the new route for the Yankees has to be that they are going to use younger guys

signing David Wells would just end up another Randy Johnson or Roger Clemens

I agree with yankeeLSUfan, signing David Wells to a minor league deal to see what he's got left wouldn't hurt. He was a great Yankee, and I would love to see him get one more shot. Even if it's just one start, let him try. If he fails, he can then retire as a Yankee, which we all know he would love to do. Now don't get me wrong, I  don't want to see him every 5th day, but another shot for Boomer isn't a bad idea. I don't think that it would hurt the team at all.

One more note: Anyone with a pulse that can throw a baseball is better then Kei Igawa. We could probably find some high school pitchers that are better then Igawa. It's time to stop mentioning that bum, and let him go.
